* This is a full-time, one-year grant-funded position supported through the College's Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) Title III grant. Continuation beyond the grant period is contingent upon available funding, institutional need, and program evaluation. *
POSITION SUMMARY
The Academic Advisor – Nursing and Allied Health Student Success reports to the Director of the Center for Academic Advising and provides proactive advising, coaching, and case management to students pursuing limited enrollment programs within the Nursing and Allied Health Division. The primary purpose of this position is to re-engage students who are not admitted into competitive programs, help them identify alternative academic and career pathways, and support their continued enrollment and completion at Chattanooga State Community College.
The Advisor conducts intentional outreach to applicants who are not selected for admission, as well as students who have stopped attending after receiving a non-admission decision. Through individualized coaching, academic planning, and career exploration, the Advisor promotes student persistence and successful degree completion that leads to a living wage.
The Advisor interprets institutional policies, program admission requirements, and academic regulations while providing accurate information and referrals. This position works collaboratively with the Nursing and Allied Health Division, Admissions, Financial Aid, Career Services, and student support offices to remove barriers and increase student success.
As a grant-funded position, the Advisor also participates in the collection and reporting of student success data to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach and re-engagement efforts and support institutional improvement.

Advisors focus on developing student potential through a holistic, student-centered approach. Advisors recognize that students are managing career decisions, program choice, course selection, admission requirements, and financial considerations, while personal circumstances may also influence their academic progress. Holistic advising considers the student as a whole person, including where they are in their educational journey, what they are currently experiencing, and their goals and aspirations. This approach allows advisors to provide individualized guidance, connect students with appropriate resources, and help them make informed decisions that support their academic and career goals.
Salary Range: $40,343 - $50,429
