Pay Rate: $20.39/Hr


*If you are a PSCC Student and eligible for the Student Employment Program, you will be paid on experience and the rates are $13.00 (no experience), $14.00 (6 months experience) and $15.00 (9 months experience)*.

Position Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to provide educational guidance and assistance for students by developing educational plans while focusing on their career goals. This is accomplished through a consistent and continuous process built on frequent, accumulated personal contacts. This position also provides support for new student advising throughout the various advising seasons.

Duties and Responsibilities:

60% TPT academic advisors facilitate student success by providing support and assistance to students through one-on-one interactions focused on understanding their degree path, analyzing their academic progress, navigate college processes and evaluating their choice of major.

15% TPT academic advisors collaborate with other offices in Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to support student success and retention.

15% TPT academic advisors meet with students to discuss withdrawing from college/courses, changing majors, addressing academic difficulties and provide support to those students at an academic crossroads.

10% TPT academic advisors attend professional development, adhere to college and department policies, complete required trainings and participate in department staff meetings.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree; 2 years in higher education with experience in advising, counseling, social work or teaching

(Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:

Skills/Abilities: Client services skills; comfortable with technology; ability to understand and implement new information on a timely basis. Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.). In depth knowledge of college policy regarding academics, co-remediated education, testing, withdrawal policies, progression requirements, graduation and exception practices. Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills will be needed on a daily basis. Knowledge of academic programs and requirements. An ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty and staff. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to establish goals and objectives and set work priorities. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Understanding of federal laws governing student privacy. Proficiency in the use of electronic information systems.
