Title: Academic Navigator - Mathematics
Job Summary
The Academic Navigator (12-month position) supports students in college-level gateway math courses throughout the academic year (fall, spring, and summer), in all modalities by providing personalized assistance and facilitating active learning to help students reach their educational goals. The Academic Navigator works with students in a variety of tutoring settings, such as individual or group sessions or in virtual environments, to enhance students’ understanding of the material and help students develop study skills and strategies. The Navigator assists in creating a collaborative learning environment by working with faculty in the discipline area to determine concept and skill areas of highest need, monitoring student progress, and providing feedback to both students and faculty to improve overall academic performance. The Navigator will also participate in student success initiatives related to academic readiness, placement, and preparation.
Job Duties
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related subject area.
• 2+ years of experience in tutoring, education, communication, social work, or another relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Mathematics or a related discipline.
· Experience tutoring or teaching at the college level, particularly in the community college setting.
· Experience tutoring or teaching courses in a variety of modalities including in-person, hybrid, or virtual.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn student information systems (e.g., Banner), LMS platforms (e.g., D2L, Canvas, Blackboard), and other relevant technologies.
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills
• Record keeping and reporting skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, and the public.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening and empathy, and the ability to foster student motivation and confidence.
• Willingness to learn software and digital platforms related to student learning in the subject area.
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends, if needed
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
Pay Rate: $41,984 - $52,480 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
