Adjunct Faculty – Mathematics

*Candidates who are available to teach in-person are preferred.*

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Department Head and/or Lead Faculty, Adjunct Faculty have as their primary duty the instruction of assigned college-level and/or learning support classes. Adjunct faculty may teach classes scheduled during the day or evening, delivered in a variety of formats, and offered at multiple locations, including off-campus sites and local high schools.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting classes using appropriate instructional practices
  • Maintaining accurate records of attendance
  • Evaluating student performance on assignments
  • Monitoring and communicating progress to students and appropriate college personnel
  • Assigning midterm and final grades
  • Completing required training
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Adjunct Faculty are expected to comply with and support college policies as outlined in the Strategic Plan, the College Catalog, the Adjunct Faculty Handbook, and the Employment Agreement.

Essential Functions

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

  • Demonstrate teaching excellence through evidence-based instructional practices that promote student learning
  • Acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials
  • Remain current within the field of assigned instruction and related occupational areas
  • Respect the rights of students and their access to educational opportunities

Holistic Student Support

  • Demonstrate familiarity with holistic support services available to students, including Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Tutoring Services, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and the Center for Access and Disability Services
  • Ensure that services and activities are clearly communicated, widely accessible, and aligned with documented student needs and institutional/state policies

Organizational Culture 

  • Support and advance the College’s goals related to organizational effectiveness, collaboration, and the creation of a positive learning and working environment
  • Support the Math and Science Division’s use of recognized best practices to provide services and support in accordance with institutional and state guidelines

Position Requirements

  • An earned Master’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics from a regionally accredited institution OR
  • A Master’s degree in another field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Mathematics or Statistics

Preferred Qualifications

  • College teaching experience and/or K–12 teaching experience
  • Experience with alternative instructional delivery modes (hybrid, online, virtual)
  • Availability to teach in-person at Chattanooga State’s main campus
