TITLE: Adjunct Instructor-Welding Technology     CLASSIFICATION:             Part-Time Faculty – Non-exempt     DIRECT SUPERVISION FROM: VP of Academics and Compliance     OFFICE LOCATION(S): Franklin County Campus   925 Dinah Shore Blvd, Winchester, TN      HOURS: Monday – Thursday 5:30 p.m. – 10:15 p.m.   (18 hrs./wk. max)     HOURLY WAGE:  $30

 

FUNCTION OF THE JOB: 

Tennessee College of Applied Technology Shelbyville is accepting applications for an Adjunct Welding Technology Instructor position. The position is part-time, Monday through Thursday, and is located at the Franklin County Campus, 925 Dinah Shore Blvd, Winchester, TN.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individualized classroom and lab instruction to high school and adult students to prepare them for careers in welding.
  • Demonstrate and explain welding techniques (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, OFC, and PAC) in classroom and lab settings.
  • Monitor, grade, and evaluate individual students’ progress.
  • Maintain appropriate records and submit timely reports.
  • Assist in recruitment and placement of students.
  • Maintain good public relations with business and industry and maintain an active advisory board.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (HiSET acceptable).
  • Postsecondary diploma or A.A.S. in Welding or related field preferred.
  • AWS Certification Level I or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • 3+ years of approved work experience in the welding occupation:
    • Experience with SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, OFC, and PAC using various materials.
    • Fabrication and blueprint reading experience.
    • Technical teaching experience a plus.
  • Proficient in the principles and practices of the welding industry.
  • Skilled in using industry-standard tools and equipment.
  • Capable of teaching students tool use, layout interpretation, and blueprint reading for fabrication.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and other common software programs.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills for effective teaching.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school and adult learners and to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, staff, faculty, industry partners, and the public.
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) labeling and policy a plus.
  • Physically able to lift up to 30 lbs. and move around the teaching area to demonstrate and perform occupational tasks (with or without accommodation).
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
