Pay Rate: $43,570 - $53,760/per year. Pay will be determined based on related work experience above required. To be considered in determining pay, all related work experience must be listed on the application.

Position Summary: The purpose of this job is to provide educational guidance and assistance to students by developing meaningful educational plans compatible with their career goals. This is accomplished through a consistent and continuous process built on frequent, accumulated personal contacts. This advisor will serve as a resource for faculty in the School of Business, other staff members and stakeholders as assigned. The position is expected to contribute to the success of the college through contributions to the strategic plan for the department and the institution.

Essential Functions:

30% Facilitate student academic success, major selection, career development, and personal enrichment, through one-on-one, student focused advising emphasizing theoretical and practical methods of inquiry, guided reflection, engagement, assessment, and analysis. Assist students with understanding the analysis of their academic progress, the graduation plan for their major (including all course requirements), audits, how to navigate college procedures, and effects of changing a major in order to ensure completion of their degrees.

25% Support the execution of a comprehensive and holistic program of advising where students increase their personal agency and critical thinking skills, and apply both to their life choices in college and beyond. Advise students with academic difficulties, those contemplating withdrawal, and those at an academic crossroads. Provide relational advising for at-risk students, academic coaching, and resource referrals as needed. Provide information on career and /or transfer options. Provide the guidance students need to allow them to make informed choices about their academic path.

25% Collaborate and maintain positive working relationships with individuals and departments across the college. Support the faculty in the School of Business and serve as a resource for the Business students when faculty are unavailable. Prepare and present professional development for faculty and staff.

10% Work with the Assistant VP of Academics to maintain and create new articulation and transfer agreements for the School of Business with our area four year institutions.

10% Contribute to the success and development of the strategic plan of the College while supporting the vision of the Advising Department by serving on committees, participating in professional development, and implementing new initiatives.

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in higher education required.

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Physical Demands:

There is no significant lifting or moving of large objects in this job. Sitting and extensive computer work are the main activities.  Being able to hear is an asset in this job because it is often easier to gauge a person’s understanding or response if you can hear.  Subtleties of tone can indicate more than words in certain situations.

Because the most information used in this job to perform the critical functions is either on a computer or in some form of written communication, being able to see, while not critical, does make the job more manageable.
