Assistant Baseball Coach

The Assistant Baseball Coach assists the head coach with organizing daily operations of the baseball program. This position assists with conducting practices and workouts, instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques, and guiding student athletes toward successful completion of their degree program. This assistant coach position is also responsible for all athletic fields' maintenance.

This is a 10-month position based at the Columbia, TN Campus.

Essential Functions:

  1. Identify, recruit, coach, and retain student athletes.
  2. Organize and direct small groups and individual practice sessions.
  3. Review game films and prepare scouting reports.
  4. Participate in athletic fundraising and community service events.
  5. Participate in game film assignments and assist with film exchange/sending film to four-year institutions to promote student athletes.
  6. Collect and input accurate stats.
  7. Monitor student athlete academic progress and study hall attendance.
  8. Organize and maintain equipment inventory.
  9. Coordinate game day set-up/breakdown and facility needs for visitors and officials.
  10. Assist with team travel, meals, laundry, and equipment.
  11. Adhere to all NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association), Columbia State, and TCCAA (Tennessee Community College Athletic Association) rules and policies.
  12. Model sportsmanship and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, offices, and spectators.
  13. Assist in the implementation of summer camps.
  14. Responsible for all maintenance and upkeep for Columbia State athletic fields.
  15. Instruct athletes on field maintenance and upkeep of facilities.
  16. Implement and execute intramural programs.
  17. Stay up to date with safety protocols, CPR certification/training and other health related aspects of your sport.

Supplemental Functions:

  1. Support Athletics and intramurals initiatives.
  2. Service on college committees.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Training and Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  2. At least one year of success experience as an athletic intern, graduate assistant coach, club level coaching, or high school coaching.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to rules, policies, compliance, and student athlete success in academics and athletics.

 

Preferred Experience:

  1. Pitching coach preferred
  2. College or professional coaching experience
  3. Knowledge and experience of athletic field maintenance.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:

 

  1. Abide by NJCAA and TCCAA rules.
  2. Possess and maintain knowledge about ADA, policy, and law changes applicable to the college setting.
  3. Adhere to state and federal legal, ethical, and TBR/Columbia State policy standards.
  4. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize projects and tasks.
  5. Computer skills for daily workflow (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  6. Adhere to FERPA guidelines for dissemination of student records and information.
  7. Cooperate as a team player to achieve department, division and organizational goals.

 

Working Conditions:

  1. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  2. Requires regular travel to extended campuses.
  3. Extensive use of personal computer.

Hiring Salary Range: $32,260 - $38,720

This is a 10-month position based at the Columbia, TN Campus.
