Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Child Care Centers is responsible for assisting the Director in planning, coordinating, and administering the Campus Child Care Centers. Primary responsibilities include supervision of teaching staff and day-to-day operation of the facility. The position reports to the Director of Campus Child Care.

Job Duties

  • Assists in planning, creating, and carrying out the administration of the Center’s operation in all areas.
  • Helps oversee all collections of tuition from parent fees, scholarships, and contracted services and monitor the USDA Food program.
  • Helps determine the operating budget for center operations, assists with monitoring expenses and income to ensure that the budget is met.
  • Assists with monitoring compliance variables to maintain center licenses, accreditation, and other credentials.
  • Helps determines the effective use of personnel in the center’s structure.
  • Helps maintain job descriptions, coordinate, and recommend the hire of professional staff for the classrooms.
  • Assists to prepare parent, staff, student, and volunteer handbook, develop center policies and prepare all general enrollment information for users of the Centers.
  • Disseminate health and safety information to staff, parents, and College students.
  • Assists to evaluate classified staff and provide for professional development.
  • Oversees the hiring process including applications, interviewing, and hiring of student staff in all areas.
  • Assists to communicate with and train all Centers’ staff concerning operating policies and procedures.
  • Assists to supervise professional and student staff for Centers.
  • Directly supervises the Child Care Aides.
  • Assists to develop the Center’s educational philosophy and direct teachers in implementation.
  • Assists to determine the most effective implementation of a developmentally appropriate high quality children’s program, which meets the needs of all children.
  • Assists with National Accreditation of Centers.
  • Collaborates with other College programs that utilize the Center for Student observations, participation, or research.
  • Collaborate with Health Care Professionals on campus and in the local community to provide appropriate referrals.
  • Assist with computer software programs for enrollment, billing, and classroom assignments.
  • Stays abreast of childcare operations and trends on the national and local level.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in early childhood education
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Management or supervisory experience required
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Teacher license
  • First Aid/CPR certification
