Title: Assistant Professor Respiratory Care
Job Summary
The Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Education (DCE) for Respiratory Therapy is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction and related activities. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations. The Assistant Professor and DCE for Respiratory Therapy is responsible for performing assigned teaching duties during assigned times. The duties will be performed at the Jackson campus, but will include travel to affiliate laboratories as needed. The Assistant Professor and DCE for Respiratory Therapy will operate under the supervision of the Respiratory Care Therapist Program Director and the Dean of the School of Healthcare Professions and in cooperation with other stakeholders. Other stakeholders include the RCT Advisory Committee, Jackson State Community College, and all relevant accrediting bodies.
Course release will be implemented in order to allow time for added duties of the role of Director of Clinical Education.
Job Duties
• Prepares and delivers lectures on topics for RCT classes in the Respiratory Care program, as assigned.
• Compiles, administers, evaluates, and grades students' class work, assignments, tests, and papers; keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
• Develops curricula and instructional material such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts for both didactic and laboratory sections of their assigned courses.
• Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
• Assign students to a clinical affiliate site experience and confirm the assignment in writing with the clinical site.
• Ensure that students participating in clinical experiences maintain documented current immunization status and other health records according to the program policy.
• Collaborate with clinical sites by making regular, periodic contacts with them in person and via email/phone calls where students are attending.
• Identify and help develop new sites for clinical education that align with the program’s mission.
• Orient students for clinical experiences with the appropriate resources.
• Ensure that student clinical attendance meets or exceeds the program’s requirements.
• Ensure that skills acquired during the student clinical/field experience meets or exceeds the program’s requirements.
• Along with RCT Program Director, review the quality and appropriateness of clinical experiences by considering student’s feedback, site visits, and other information in order to make recommendations for continued partnerships.
• Along with RCT Program Director, facilitate resolutions of clinical/field issues that may be affecting the student’s academic performance via meetings, site visits, or phone calls.
• Along with RCT Program Director, create, maintain, distribute clinical documentation forms, study guides, etc. to affiliate laboratories.
• Along with RCT Program Director, help facilitate and grade all clinical exams.
• Facilitate or conduct clinical instructor evaluations.
• Assist with program planning and evaluation.
• Assist with program’s Advisory Committee meetings.
• Assist with student advising.
• Participate in recruitment and marketing activities.
• Attends faculty meetings, college assemblies, orientation activities, and other meetings.
• Participates on committees at the department, college, or state levels.
• Maintain compliance with the COARC regulations and standards for instruction and clinical/field education.
• Review with the RCT Program Director the completed student evaluations to develop a plan for improvement when needed relating to both didactic/lab coursework and clinical experience.
• Act as a liaison with clinical faculty to address potential problems, and orient new clinical instructors.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required.
• 2 years as an RCT student preceptor.
• Hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care
• Hold current Tennessee RRT state licensure
• Have a minimum of four (4) years in clinical respiratory care practice
• Have a minimum of two (2) years experience teaching in an accredited Respiratory Care Program either as an appointed faculty member, guest speaker, adjunct, or as an adjunct clinical preceptor for an accredited Respiratory Care Program
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree from an accredited institution.
• Pediatric and neonatal experience
• Prior experience as an RCT clinical instructor.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions
Pay Rate: $56,227 - $67,472 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
