Job Summary

Roane State Community College is seeking qualified applications for a Tenure track position in Mathematics. Qualified candidates will be expected to provide quality instruction in all levels of mathematics. Teaching duties will be based on departmental needs which may include evening hours and/or travel to satellite campuses. The appointment is expected to begin in August 2025.

Job Duties

  • Teach mathematics lectures as assigned in accordance with the catalog description and the approved course syllabus. Assigned classes may include traditional face-to-face, dual enrollment, two-way live video (zoom room), web-based, synchronous or online settings. Provide service to the college by being actively involved in the math contest, academic festival, college fairs, and other assigned events. Engage in ongoing professional development through action-research projects, grant development, and conference participation. Respond promptly to requests from the Dean’s office. Teach 15 hours of lecture and labs per semester. The ability to teach during the summer may or may not be offered. Post and maintain office hours which provide adequate time for academic advisement with students and out-of-class meetings with students and colleagues. Advise students about academic and career goals. Serve on assigned college committees. Attend faculty, division, departmental and other meetings as required. Attend and participate in convocation. Collaborate with mathematics faculty, curriculum chair, and academic leadership about curricular and programmatic issues and needs. Travel to multiple campuses as assigned. Use of technology in support of student learning is expected. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

Hold a Master’s degree in Mathematics from a regionally accredited college or university or a Master’s degree in any field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in mathematics.
Candidate must possess good oral and written communication skills.
Candidate must be willing to work with a diverse student population that represents a wide range of age, ethnicity, socio-economic backgrounds, and academic abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Earned Doctorate degree in Mathematics.
Teaching experience in a community college setting with experience teaching Math courses.
Computer skills including familiarity with online instructional tools such as Desire2Learn, WebAssign, and MyMathLab.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
