We have an opening for a Tenure-track Instructor (Theatre) in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division at our Chattanooga campus!

POSITION SUMMARY

The role will be responsible for the following:

Develop courses, lessons, exercises and examinations in the area of Introduction to Theatre and Stagecraft: serve as shop foreman to assist with theatre productions: supervise student workers, oversee shop safety, maintain tools and equipment, and source lumber, paint, and material; participate in design/technical creative work based on experience; remain current within field of assigned instruction, related occupational areas and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college, divisional, professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations by attending meetings and serving as officers; support dual enrollment efforts by teaching courses at high school sites if needed; participate in annual faculty evaluation process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Holistic Student Support

  • Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility to empower all students to learn.
  • Respect rights of students and access to educational opportunities.
  • Counsel and advise students regarding academic preparation and career goals.
  • Assist in formal and informal placement activities for employment and/or transfer to four-year institutions.
  • Work to retain students.
  • Provide out-of-class assistance to students.
  • Support student activities.
  • Maintain shop safety and supervise students in the scene shop.

Organizational Culture

  • Provide support in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division that aligns with the College’s values.
  • Embrace and promote the College’s goals and support the Humanities and Fine Arts Division’s efforts to utilize best practices related to the student experience.
  • Assist in recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned.
  • Participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes.
  • Support and participate in college/division/department committees, organization and/or task forces to make recommendations in the College’s decision-making.
  • Maintain collegial relationships with all internal and external participants in college theatrical productions.

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

  • Structure student experiences to ensure fairness, accessibility, and relevance in academic, student life, and co-curricular activities. 
  • Teach assigned courses.
  • Facilitate the classroom instructional process.
  • Evaluate students, monitor progress, and assign final grades in the campus Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Maintain attendance and grade records.
  • Mentor and orient faculty and staff.
  • Maintain required classroom and office hours.
  • Select texts, supplemental documents, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources.
  • Develop supplemental instructional materials.
  • Use current technology in preparation, creation, and delivery of instruction.
  • Create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed.
  • Maintain updated course syllabi.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The successful applicant will possess evidence of innovative instructional methodologies, will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Theatre Productions, have previous experience working in a scene shop for theatrical productions, and will provide strong recommendations from his or her appropriate supervisors.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Master of Fine Arts in Theatre

Preferred Qualifications:

The applicant will have previous experience as a Theatre Shop Foreman, documented evidence of community college teaching experience, dual enrollment teaching experience, and experience in a variety of delivery formats including hybrid instruction and accelerated term schedules.

Salary Range: $46,211 - $57,764
