The Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Dickson is accepting applications for the full-time position of Off-Road Diesel Tech Associate Instructor for the Dickson Campus.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of Technical Diploma in instructional area or equivalent higher education training with credentials in related field. Associate Degree preferred. A comparable combination of education and directly related work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a diesel mechanic within the last five (5) years. Experience working on heavy equipment/tractors preferred.
  • Must possess industry certifications or the ability to become certified within 12 calendar months.
  • Must possess computer skills.
  • Strong hands-on technical background in field of instruction.
  • Must possess a high degree of knowledge in the following areas: diesel engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, clutch and transmissions, hydraulics, hydrostatic transmissions, drivelines and axles, frame and suspension systems, steering systems, brake systems, and HVAC systems.

SKILLS

  • Must possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher and interact with high school and adult students.
  • Must show evidence of good character, mature attitude and stable personality.
  • Must be willing to remain current in the instructional field and maintain personal certifications and program accreditation(s).
  • Prior teaching or evidence of ability to teach students a plus.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with students, faculty, staff, the general public and business/industry representatives.

GENERAL DUTIES:  The Off-Road Diesel Tech Associate Instructor is responsible for providing in-person individualized theory and hands-on instruction to adult and high school students to prepare them for employment in the field. Areas of instruction include engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, clutch and transmissions, hydraulics, hydrostatic transmissions, drivetrains and axles, frame and suspension systems, steering systems, brake systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Students receive instruction in diagnostics, system analysis, disassembly, replacing defective parts, reassembling, etc. The Associate Instructor must monitor, grade and evaluate individual student progress; maintain student records in the college’s student records management software; maintain appropriate documentation; submit timely reports; and assist in recruitment of new students and placement of graduates. The Associate Instructor must maintain good public relations with business and industry, participate in advisory committee meetings and cooperate with outside agencies. This position will also supervise and follow-up on students participating in cooperative education. Some travel may be required. This position is full-time and reports to the Vice President of Academics and Compliance. Scheduled work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Scheduled class hours are 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is not a remote work position.

SALARY:  $55,983-$67,181 ($28.71-$34.45 per hour) Commensurate with Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology salary guidelines and directly related experience.
