Job Summary
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Jackson is accepting applications for an Automotive Technology Instructor. This 12-month, full-time faculty position will be located at the Whiteville Extension Campus and reports to the Vice President for Instruction and Institutional Effectiveness.
Job Duties
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma (or equivalent) and a post-secondary credential in Automotive Service Technology.
• Current ASE Service Technician Certifications required: ASE Auto Maintenance & Light Repair (G1), Suspension & Steering (A4), Brakes (A5), and Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6).
• Ability to obtain Master ASE Certification required. Master ASE credentials in all areas of cars and light trucks will be required within 18 months of hire.
• Minimum of 3 years of current experience in the field.
• Evidence of ability or potential ability to instruct all phases of automotive service technology.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills to inspect, troubleshoot, service, and repair domestic and import automotive systems utilizing safe and proper methods, techniques, practices, and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• The candidate is responsible for teaching all phases of the program including all eight areas of ASE certification for cars and light trucks: electrical and electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, engine performance, engine repair, brakes, suspension and steering, manual drive train, and axle/auto transaxle.
• Develop, plan, and prepare a complete progressive course of study, lesson plans, assignments, and instructional aids. Other duties include curriculum development and updates, student record keeping, student recruitment, placement, and follow-up.
• Monitors conduct, safety, and discipline during training.
• Assist with placement of students in the workforce.
• Participate in recruiting and evaluating students for the Automotive Technology program.
• Participate in professional development activities, including cooperating with outside agencies. Continue personal training and professional development to stay abreast of changes in the automotive industry.
• Must maintain an active advisory committee and communicate with business and industry on a regular basis.
• Must monitor and evaluate student progress; accurately maintain program and student records.
• Other duties as assigned.
