JOB SUMMARY

The Campus Grounds Technician assists the College in maintaining the campus grounds. In this position, a broad variety of work is performed in tasks such as but not limited to grounds/landscape/equipment maintenance; carpentry; painting; custodial services; and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICIATIONS

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma.
  • Prior experience in ground maintenance is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform a variety of tasks in grounds/landscape/horticultural maintenance.  Tasks may include but are not limited to: mowing grass; trimming; pruning; blowing debris off of walkways and other pedestrian traffic areas.
  • Maintain landscaping equipment, including routine maintenance, deferred maintenance, and troubleshooting equipment breakdowns.
  • Weeding and application of restricted chemicals under licensed supervision using provided safety methods and protective equipment.
  • Cultivating flower beds.
  • Sidewalk and parking lot maintenance
  • Occasionally will be called upon to perform duties in support of general maintenance and events.
  • Operate heavy machinery.
  • Ability to transport more than 50 pounds safely and independently.
  • Ability to perform job-related tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knowledge of the operational methods, material, and procedures used in landscaping.
  • Knowledge of operation for both manual and power-driven tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and protective equipment.
  • Ability to execute tasks based on verbal and written instruction.
  • Ability to perform job-related tasks in all weather conditions for extended periods of time.  
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
  • Ability to respond to severe weather events.

WORK ACTIVITIES & EQUIPMENT

Work activities routinely involve repetitive tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting equipment that can weigh between 25-50 pounds. Work activities include the use of landscaping tools, machinery, manual and power-driven tools, cleaning supplies and horticulture chemicals, personal computers, peripheral devices, etc.

JOB LOCATION

This position is based on-site at the Plant Operations Building at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee. This role may require occasional travel and work outside of regular business hours, both on- and off-campus within the college’s five-county service area. This could include attending statewide meetings at TBR or other work-related travel as needed.
