POSITION SUMMARY 

A Child Care Specialist (CCS) serves as a classroom teacher in the Child Development Center.  This position has primary responsibility for managing an Early Childhood Education classroom under the direction of the Assistant Director and Director of the Child Development Center on the college campus. The CCS provides quality childcare and age appropriate learning experiences designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Fiscal Stewardship 

  • Child Care Specialist ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as policies and reporting requirements related to the areas of the Child Development Center to help minimize any financial costs.  

  • Child Care Specialist serves as part of the benefit to the College student and employee in terms of enhancing growth in student enrollment and employee productivity.  

Holistic Student Support 

  • Child Care Specialist creates an inviting, safe, and educational environment for children 6 weeks -5 years.  The center provides care for the children of the college’s students as well as faculty and staff.   

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation 

  • Child Care Specialist leads and guides college students in High Impact practices with practicum service learning through analyzing and developing classrooms, which align with the Colleges mission and values, and Tennessee Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing rules. 

Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices.  

  • Child Care Specialist role is to help children value cultural, racial and socioeconomic diversity well as gender differences and special needs in family backgrounds.   

  • Child Care Specialist embraces and promotes the college’s goals related to diversity, equity, and inclusion by leading the classroom to utilize best practices to provide equity-minded services for college students and their children.  

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Preferred Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field. 

  • CPR and First Aid Certification within six months of employment date 

  • Educational practicum or one year in a licensed child care center 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND WORK CHARACTERISTICS 

  • Ability to use instructional methods, materials, and program development; psychological and biological needs of children 

  • Ability to use oral and written communication consistent with providing instruction to children and adults and conducting parent conferences; interpersonal skills consistent with observing and conducting multiple simultaneous activities and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. 

  • Ability to evaluate situations (routine and/or crisis) and make decisions using sound judgment; to perform physical requirements associated with the supervision of young children; to maintain confidentiality; to handle multiple, simultaneous work demands; to maintain flexibility and be able to adapt to change 

Duties & Responsibilities:   

  • -Perform routine cleaning duties to provide a safe and healthy environment 

  • -Assist children with personal needs and hygiene 

  • -Develop and implement age-appropriate learning and development activities 

  • -Organize visual aids to create interesting and attractive learning environments 

  • -Supervise college students in Early Childhood Education practicum 

  • -Maintain attendance and evaluation records; conduct parent conferences 

  • -Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts 

  • -Perform other job-related duties as assigned  

Projected Salary Range: $29,549 - $34,720 ($15.15 - $17.81/HOUR)
