Job Summary
To provide personal counseling for Roane State students. This position provides coordinated counseling services, programs, consultations, and activities for Roane State students, staff and faculty. The counselor will also contribute to campus-wide initiatives as a content area expert for mental health related topics and offer consultation services to faculty and staff for students of concern while protecting the confidentiality of clients.
This in person position will primarily be based at the Oak Ridge and Knox County campuses but will also be expected travel to other sites.
Job Duties
1. Counsel students with personal or academic issues individually or in groups, which may include some career decision making, vocational goal-seeking, and/or career life planning.
2. Plan, develop and implement workshops, and seminars, and other outreach on campuses as requested, including regular travel to other campuses.
3. Provide consultation and support to staff, faculty, and academic programs.
4. Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies.
5. Provide short-term crisis intervention and referrals, which may include some evening and weekend work.
6. Provide support for academic advising and retention programs.
7. Perform counseling-related administrative duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling, mental health, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed or license eligible.
Two years’ experience in higher education counseling, working with adults, and/or working with college students in a counseling environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
