The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is Tennessee's largest higher education system, governing 40 post-secondary educational institutions with over 200 teaching locations. The TBR system includes 13 community colleges and 27 colleges of applied technology, providing programs to students across the state, country and world.

Performs routine work to clean and care for buildings and premises. Work involves responsibility for the proper cleanliness and minor maintenance of the building to which assigned, and for the tools and equipment used.  Instructions are received in oral or written form, and work is periodically inspected by a superior for conformance with established standards of building care and maintenance. This position is at the JNC for 2nd shift. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:       

  • Maintain cleanliness of building including, but not limited to:  sweeping, mopping, buffing and vacuuming floors, dusting and cleaning furniture, emptying trash containers, cleaning and disinfecting restroom walls, floors and fixtures, cleaning windows and glass doors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 WORKING CONDITIONS:

Restricted:  Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods.  Light lifting (less than 50 lbs) some walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis.  Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors.  Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions.  Frequency or severity is limited.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to follow instructions on chemicals used for cleaning.
  • Flexibility to work weekends if needed. 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Eighth grade education. 
  • 1-year experience in custodian work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School/GED

Minimum starting salary is $21,300 annually ($10.93 per hour). With additional experience pay increases to a maximum of $25,600.
