Custodian- Lead Worker

Job Purpose: This position is to provide a clean, safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors on an extended campus.

This position is based on the Clifton, TN Campus

 

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  1. Continuous maintenance of building cleanliness as prescribed by supervisor.
  2. Sweep, mop, and buff corridors and floors.
  3. Vacuum carpets, wash windows, polish furniture, clean woodwork, clean water fountains.
  4. Empties trash containers and keep them clean and sanitized.
  5. Clean and disinfect bathroom walls, floors and fixtures.
  6. Replenish bathroom supplies.
  7. Minor maintenance activities on custodial equipment.
  8. Complete set-ups to support special events on campus.
  9. Assist with moving furniture, offices, and equipment.
  10. Clean building entrances and walks.  This will include sweeping, litter pick-up and snow removal as necessary for entry safety and appearance.
  11. Maintain grounds, pick up paper and debris from grounds.
  12. Troubleshoot routine/minor maintenance and mechanical services.
  13. Inform supervisor and/or physical plant director of repairs that cannot be repaired in house.
  14. Meet with internal/external providers to establish repair and/or maintenance plan of action.
  15. Perform monthly checks of AED equipment and assist with safety and security drills.

Supplemental Functions:       

  1. Serve on college committees.
  2. Participate in other college activities as assigned by Site Coordinator.
  3. Purchase small amounts of supplies and items needed to do minor repairs.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned including custodial actions for campus events.
  5. Assist in the identification of internal/external vendors in the region that provide effective service for the repair and/or maintenance of the facility.

 

Job Specifications:

Education, Training, and Experience Required:

  1. Successful completion of High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions on chemical cleaning labels and other oral and written instructions.
  3. Custodial experience in a similar environment.
  4. Ability to operate cleaning equipment, i.e., floor machine, high-speed buffer and floor scrubber.
  5. Ability to operate equipment used in the maintenance of grounds such as mower, blower, trimmer, etc.

Education, Training, and Experience Preferred:

  1.  Successful completion of an associate degree
  2. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  3. Prior work experience in an educational setting.
  4. Ability to perform minor maintenance on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing fixtures.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Work Characteristics:

  1. Ability to work without direct supervision.
  2. Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
  3. Ability to work independently and set priorities.
  4. Ability to work with diverse faculty, students and community members, and must be able to function effectively as a team member.
  5. Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in custodial and minor maintenance work.
  6. Knowledge of the use of technology such as email and window-based applications.

Working Conditions:

  1. Flexible working hours.
  2. Moderate standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting and pushing.
  3. Seasonal outside work.
  4. Exposure at times to cleaning chemicals and fumes.
  5. Daily exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Hiring Salary Range: $29,090- $34,900

This position is based at the Clifton, TN Campus.
