Title: Custodian (Macon Cove - Morning Shift)

Job Summary

This is a full-time permanent position under the supervision of the assigned Custodial Supervisor. The custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned areas and related work as required. He/she is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend at any Southwest Tennessee Community College location as assigned.

Work is reviewed and evaluated through inspection of work performed. Specific duties may vary depending on the type of facility to be cleaned. This position primarily reports to the Macon Cove campus. This position may be contacted during non-duty hours.

Job Duties

  • Sweeps, mops and buffs stairs, corridors and floors.
  • Strips and waxes offices in assigned areas.
  • Cleans bathroom walls, floors, and fixtures; replenishes bathroom supplies and stock closets with supplies for contract service workers; responds to all emergency calls about custodial services in assigned areas.
  • Washes windows, polishes furniture and cleans woodwork in assigned areas.
  • Checks hallways and stairways for graffiti and debris.
  • Empties trash cans and cleans containers.
  • Vacuums carpets.
  • Picks up paper and debris on ground.
  • May perform other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful completion of eighth grade.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • A background check will be required for the successful candidate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in custodial and minor maintenance work.
  • Ability to follow simple instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.
