Job Title: Dean of Health Programs

Campus Location: Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to provide leadership, strategic planning, support, and supervision to the academic Division towards a focus on quality academic programming, student success, and resourcefulness achieved through collaboration with other departments within the College or external shareholders. The Dean will serve as a liaison between students and faculty as needed. Additionally, the Dean will teach a reasonable load of academic courses per semester.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Interprets and implements the College’s educational philosophy within the Division. Develops goals and objectives that are supportive of College-wide goals. 
  • Determines Division’s required staffing complement for recommendation to VP for Academic Affairs. Participates in recruitment of faculty members and recommends hires to Vice President. Conducts periodic faculty performance evaluations and makes recommendations regarding promotions, salary increases, retention, or dismissal. 
  • Administers curriculum activities for Division, developing and recommending new courses and programs of study and recommending the modification or discontinuance of courses.
  • Collaborates with accrediting bodies and governing organizations for programs within the Division, and collaborates with program directors and faculty on curriculum assessment and student success in each program, including longitudinal success in future health programs. 
  • Coordinates divisional day classes each semester and recommends course offerings to Dean of Distance Education, coordinating logistics of distance education with other campus deans.
  • Recommends and enforces policies and procedures, and assists new faculty members in the interpretation of divisional and institutional policy. 
  • Prepares fiscal year budget requests within Division in consultation with the VP of Academic Affairs. 
  • Manages custodial care and maintenance of the Division’s physical facilities, including assigned equipment. 
  • Oversees quality by conducting continuous program and instructional evaluation and directing programs of professional growth for members of the Division. 
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in any health-related program
  • Four to seven years of career experience in a related position
  • Knowledge on health subjects in order to teach classes and develop curriculum
  • Ability to use basic office equipment, computers, and some health care instruments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in educational administration as an assistant dean, department chair, or hospital administration

Leadership & Supervisory: The incumbent directs the operations of a department or large program. Has total responsibility for 39 full-time employees. The incumbent recommends policy and approves goals and objectives for functional areas. Work is reviewed based on long-term results and actions.

Environmental Conditions: Working conditions in the office are clean and well-lit; limited interruptions and moderate but constant noise level.

Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):

  • Sits at computer for extended period of time utilizing several different software applications, creating the possibility of neck, back, and eye strain.
  • Travel to off-campus locations can occasionally occur, as needed.
