Job Summary

The Director of Engaged Learning is a full-time appointment reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Academic Innovation and Faculty Support within the division of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development at Southwest Tennessee Community College. This role provides strategic leadership for college-wide initiatives that enhance instructional excellence and student success.

The Director designs, implements, and assesses faculty development programming focused on evidence-based pedagogy, high-impact practices (HIPs), and instructional technology integration. The role supports all faculty, with targeted outreach to adjunct and dual enrollment instructors, and collaborates across academic and student affairs divisions to embed innovative teaching practices. The Director also manages the college’s honors and international education programs and represents the institution in external networks focused on teaching and learning.

Job Duties

  • Design and deliver faculty development programs aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Embed and scale high-impact practices (HIPs) across disciplines.
  • Lead onboarding and support for adjunct and dual enrollment faculty.
  • Develop instructional resources and digital learning assets.
  • Assess programming effectiveness using data.
  • Represent the college externally in teaching and learning networks.
  • Coordinate mentorships, fellowships, and learning communities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • 3+ years of experience in higher education, including teaching or faculty development.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver strategic faculty programming.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional technology and HIPs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in community college or access-oriented environments.
  • Experience supporting adjunct and dual enrollment faculty.
  • Experience with grant-funded initiatives and budget tracking.
  • Experience presenting at regional or national conferences.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Required:
    • Expertise in instructional design, HIPs, and faculty engagement.
    • Proficiency with LMS platforms, Microsoft Office, and instructional tools.
    • Strong facilitation, project management, and collaboration skills.
    • Data-informed decision-making and assessment planning.
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of accreditation and strategic planning.
    • Experience with grant writing and implementation.
    • Awareness of AI and emerging educational technologies.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Standard office environment with minimal noise levels.
  • A collaborative academic setting with cross-functional engagement.
  • Occasional evening/weekend programming.
  • Ability to travel for conferences and events.
  • Sitting, bending, moving, lifting, and carrying materials that weigh up to 20 pounds.
