Job Summary

The Director, Financial Aid demonstrates specialized knowledge of financial aid programs and grants to develop and implement student-centered and fiscally accountable services, student eligibility, and financial aid delivery; administers federal financial aid and mandated reporting; develops and implements financial aid policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.

Job Duties

  • 10% - Assist and advise students and collaborate with JSCC staff in all phases of the financial aid process. Review and analyze financial aid appeals and education plans for accuracy and degree completion. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Authorize the disbursement of financial aid funds. Ensure the resolution of overage awards, rejected awards and federal Pell grant overpayments. Coordinate and serve as the lead on the Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals and Return of Title IV processes. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Review and analyze attendance reports and academic improvement plans. Enforce regulatory standards in compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Analyze and interpret federal and institutional data to solve student issues. Assist in the development of financial aid web-based and printed materials. Monitor, reconcile, and maintain records for the efficient fiscal management of several federal programs. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Recommend hire, orient, train and evaluate departmental employees. Monitor and coordinate staff development and training programs, Provide administrative leadership and supervision. - (Marginal)
  • 5% - Prepare annual operating budget recommendations. Develop, implement and monitor assigned budgets. Develop, implement and administer departmental operating policies and procedures. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Research and remain current on changing state and federal regulations pertaining to student financial aid. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Develops, updates, and maintains a comprehensive policies and procedures manual in accordance with federal regulations and department and college policies. Creates, implements, and administers a quality control system to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations to minimize financial liability. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Department; creates, updates, and maintains the department’s master calendar; plans, organizes, and implements special projects; communicates department activities, events, deadlines, and timelines through a variety of sources including but not limited to email distribution, correspondence, memoranda, webpage updates, and flyers. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree, Business Administration, Financial Aid or Higher Education Administration, with a minimum of 4-7 years of direct financial aid office experience as the Assistant Director or above, including supervision of staff and oversight of federal aid programs, such as Title IV.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrate proficiency with student records and database management such as Banner or another integrated software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to use multiple software applications as this position is heavy on analytical reasoning, understanding, and making decisions and recommendations. Microsoft Excel is crucial in this role.

Pay Rate: $69,920 - $87,399 Annual salary depending on eligible experience which is defined by the current compensation plan.
