Position Summary: Provide strategic leadership and effective management for the Surgical Technology faculty and students. Oversee curriculum development, monitor educational performance, manage budgeting, and facilitate course delivery. Foster strong relationships with local Surgical Technology departments and ensure compliance with all program standards set by TBR, SACSCOC and CAAHEP.

Essential Functions:

45% Teach on ground, hybrid or online classes including dialectical lab and clinical lab as needed

20% Develop, review, and update the program curriculum and evaluation methods regularly to ensure it meets the standards set by CAAHEP and complies with Tennessee Board of Regents requirements. In collaboration with faculty, oversee and evaluate outcomes to ensure that all core concepts are effectively taught and mastered by students.

10% Develop and manage the faculty schedule for lectures and clinical observation, ensuring that all students are properly supervised in clinical settings. Oversee the Program’s budget, ensuring effective resource allocation.

5% Recruit, supervise, and evaluate faculty members and staff members as assigned.

5% Establish measurable goals for the Program and track progress, working closely with the advisory board, faculty, and student advisors to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with industry standards.

5% Maintain accurate and organized Program records, ensuring all required documentation is in place to track Program outcomes as outlined by the advisory board, accreditors, and TBR.

5% Professional Development as required by PSCC and per CAAHEP guidelines.

5% Other duties, as assigned

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency. 
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies.

Years of Experience:

At least five years of experience in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both within the past ten years.

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Microsoft Word/Excel. 
  • An understanding of LMS and repositories.
  • Have documented education or experience in instructional methodology, curriculum design and program planning.
  • Able to engage in the college’s mission and values.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift, move, assist with movement of lab components.  A considerable amount of time sitting at the computer. 

Hazards: Could become injured through lifting/moving items.
