Job Summary

The Facilities and Maintenance department of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is seeking a self-motivated professional for the Facilities Support Associate 3 position. This position will work independently and collaboratively with other staff and administration to ensure campus facilities are clean, well-maintained, safe, and functional to support an optimal learning environment. This full-time, non-exempt position will work 37.5 hours a week, 7.5 hours a day, Monday through Friday.

Job Duties

  • Perform regular routine, custodial, and preventive maintenance tasks across campus facilities and systems to meet health, safety, and quality standards. - (Essential)
  • Conduct minor repairs related to building areas, including electrical systems, plumbing, lighting, landscaping, painting, carpentry work, and HVAC equipment. - (Essential)
  • Utilize appropriate hand and power tools to execute repairs, installations, cleaning/waxing floors, and facility modifications as needed. - (Essential)
  • Provide set up, tear down, and logistic support for events as required through tasks like furniture rearrangement or moving of large items. - (Essential)
  • Demonstrate organization, attention to detail, and practical problem-solving skills. - (Essential)
  • Opens and unlocks buildings. - (Essential)
  • Some travel to other campus locations may be required. - (Essential)
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned in service of the students, programs, department, and mission of the institution. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required for consideration.
• Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience performing custodial/facilities support duties.
• Knowledge of proper sanitation, maintenance, and safety protocols applicable to this role.

Preferred Qualifications

• A technical certificate or diploma related to facilities operations, such as electrical systems, plumbing, lighting, landscaping, carpentry, general building maintenance, HVAC/R, or other construction trades, is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the material and equipment used in preventive and general maintenance tasks, custodial, grounds-keeping, and building maintenance.
• Must be proficient in general maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, lighting, landscaping, painting, carpentry, HVAC, GHS, and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to read and understand safety data sheets and operating instructions, and equipment manuals.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• A mature attitude with a reliable and dependable work ethic is required.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
• Ability to use tools and equipment to perform custodial, facility, and ground upkeep tasks.
• Ability to do repetitive movements and tasks.
• General computer skills.
• Valid Tennessee driver's license and ability to drive truck with trailer.

WORKING CONDITIONS (physical demands):

  • Heavy Work involves occasionally exerting 50 to 75 pounds of force, frequently 25 to 50 pounds of force, and constantly 10 to 20 pounds to move objects.
  • Walking or standing continually; being able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; and using body members (arms, hands, fingers), tools, or special devices to work, move, guide, or place objects.
  • Requires mental and visual attention to detail.

SALARY: In accordance with Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines of $27,129 - $31,694.
