Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville, is accepting applications for a part-time Floor Covering and Installation Adjunct Instructor. This position is responsible for the administration and instruction efforts of the floor covering installation course.

Job Duties:
The part-time Floor Covering Installation Adjunct Instructor will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Instruction Delivery and Material Preparation: Teach program-specific content in-person and online using the established curriculum, while preparing and organizing materials needed for course instruction, labs, and testing to facilitate effective learning experiences.
  • Learning Environment and Career Preparation: Create a focused and engaging learning environment that encourages student performance and fosters skill development, preparing students for successful careers in the floor-covering industry by providing relevant industry insights and practical applications of course content.
  • Effective Communication and Real-World Application: Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff to support academic success, relating instruction and course objectives to real-world, industry-specific examples to enhance student understanding.
  • Administrative Duties: Submit grades, attendance, reports, and records punctually to maintain accurate academic documentation, while participating in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry standards and teaching practices.
  • Industry Engagement and Safety Compliance: Conduct regular industry visits to establish key relationships, stay abreast of manufacturing trends, and ensure adherence to safety and security requirements in training areas, maintaining program certification requirements as appropriate. 
  • Representation and Other Duties: Attend conferences, annual meetings, and other events on behalf of the technical college as needed and perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

• A minimum of three (3) years of full-time work experience in floor covering installation or comparable skill sets.
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Must commit to remaining current in the field

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in Floor Covering Installation
• Teaching experience
• Knowledge of Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher
• Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office applications, email, etc.) are required
• Self-motivated, determined, and team-oriented.
• Indication of willingness to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and business/industry personnel
• Commitment to remaining current with industry practices through professional development activities
• Must be able to communicate with students and teach in a hands-on learning environment.

SALARY: In accordance with Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines at a rate of $30.00 per hour.
