Food Services Worker

Position Summary:
Part Time Temporary Position: Monday – Friday 8:30-2:15
Performs a wide range of duties involved with preparing and/or serving foods in one or more of a variety of food service environments. May perform such duties as preparing salad items, hot foods, and/or cold foods, and/or assisting in the preparation of bakery items, as appropriate to the position. Assist in cleaning work areas, equipment, utensils. May assist in the set up, and service; as appropriate to the area of operation. May serve food to customers and/or perform cashiering duties, as appropriate and other duties as assigned by food service director.
Essential Functions
Holistic Student Support
- The Food Service Worker prepares and stocks the food for the needs of our community, adhering to safety and sanitation guidelines
- Replenishes foods, silverware, plates and cutlery, dishes, and trays at serving stations; replenish all condiments.
- Cleans, wash and maintains work areas, including spot sweeping floors, facilities, pots, pans, service ware, utensils, and equipment; as appropriate to the area of operation.
Fiscal Stewardship
- The Food Service Worker part time assists in the food cost profit/loss of goods in preparations of foods adhering to routine practices to help minimize waste and costs.
- Conveys food and supplies from the main kitchen, bakery, and/or salad preparation area to the serving site either by carrying or by utilizing a cart.
- perform cashiering duties, as required.
- Attends to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions with Food Service Director permissions.
Organizational Culture
- Food Service Worker part time helps to maintain a fun, welcoming environment for all guests and co-workers to help build an inclusive environment with all members of the campus community independent of race, gender, or sexuality.
- May provide guidance and training to other employees performing related work when approved by Director.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Program Innovation
- Sets up food service and kitchen areas, equipment and utensils, under detailed instruction and, in accordance with specific area needs; checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations; may operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned.
- Follows prescribed procedures in setting up hot and cold food lines; grill, hot bar, cold food holding equipment, front beverage/condiment line; chooses proper utensils and sets all food equipment to appropriate temperature for menu items.
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes, hot bar food items, stocking beverages, salads, sandwiches, simple bakery items, and/or other similar food items, as appropriate to the position.
Teaching Excellence
- Serves food items to customers from counters and/or steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served, and adds garnishes according to instructions
Minimum Job Requirements
- High School or accredited GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ability to Stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
- Basic knowledge in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
