The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is Tennessee's largest higher education system, governing 40 post-secondary educational institutions with over 200 teaching locations. The TBR system includes 13 community colleges and 27 colleges of applied technology, providing programs to students across the state, country and world.
The head women's basketball coach plays a vital role in developing student-athletes both on and off the court. Their primary responsibilities include: team management, player development, recruitment, academic support, compliance, budget management, community engagement, leadership and role modeling while representing the institution with pride and excellence.
Job Duties
1. Team Management: Leading and managing all aspects of the women's basketball program, including practices, games, and team events. This involves developing strategies, organizing practices, and ensuring the team's overall preparedness.
2. Player Development: Fostering the skill development and overall growth of each player on the team. This includes providing individualized coaching, mentoring, and guidance to help players reach their full potential athletically and academically.
3. Recruitment: Identifying and recruiting talented student-athletes to join the program. This involves scouting potential prospects, building relationships with high school coaches and players, and coordinating recruiting visits.
4. Academic Support: Monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes and providing support to ensure they maintain eligibility to compete. This may involve collaborating with academic advisors and tutoring services to help student-athletes succeed in the classroom.
5. Compliance: Ensuring compliance with all rules and regulations set forth by the community college, conference, and governing athletic bodies such as the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association).
6. Budget Management: Managing the budget for the women's basketball program, including expenses related to travel, equipment, and other operational costs. Prepare, track and monitor program budgets.
7. Community Engagement: Engaging with the local community in a positive and professional manner to promote the women's basketball program and build support. This may involve participating in community events, youth clinics, and fundraisers. Must participate in RSCC athletic department events.
8. Leadership and Role Modeling: Serving as a positive role model for student-athletes and representing the college with professionalism and integrity at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with at least three (3) years of experience in coaching basketball. Valid state of Tennessee Driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Collegiate level experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills.
