Position Summary: Assist Custodial and Waste Management supervisor in keeping all campus facilities clean and sanitary including assisting in building inspections as part of the oversight of the housekeeping contract. Duties will include manual cleaning of windows, glass, furniture and floors, etc., as well as keeping restrooms clean and stocked with supplies during the day. Clean entrances and doorways weekly or as needed. Respond to clean up calls at all campuses.
Essential Functions:
30% Clean bathroom facilities, walls, floors; replenish supplies; and clear clogged commodes.
20% Clean floors in corridors, stairwells, offices, classrooms, labs and other areas as assigned.
5% Assist supervisor with building inspections on all campuses. Clean areas that the contractor has missed overnight.
10% Collect and remove trash and other debris from buildings, including building entryways, connecting walkways between buildings, and campus grounds; clean trash containers when trash is removed.
10% Wash windows and glass; polish furniture, clean stairway railings and woodwork and perform high dusting.
5% Clean offices as necessary during office transitions or reconfigurations.
10% Aid supervisor on work order coverage and response to cleanup calls on all campuses.
5% Learn safety data sheets, proper removal of blood borne pathogens, and mold; adhere to all policies and guidelines.
5% Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Requirements include a high school diploma or GED as well as a proficiency in literacy as this employee must complete OSHA training pertaining to safety in the workplace, blood borne pathogens, MSDS and right to know information, and chemical safety. Must be able to drive and have a valid driver’s license.
Three years’ experience cleaning in a commercial environment preferred.
Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.
Complexity & Creativity: Knowing how to mix chemicals, ability to lift 50 pounds and work safely on ladders. Proficiency in a second language is not required. Guidelines and policies are in place for work. Ability to learn new skill sets as they apply to housekeeping.
Magnitude of Impact: The impact should be noticed immediately. If not, it will be in a few days as the overall quality of cleanliness will improve dramatically and response time will be greatly increased.
Responsibility for Accuracy: Incorrect mixing of chemicals, or wet floors left unaddressed would be a risk to the faculty, staff, and students. If errors are not immediately detected, they would be noticed promptly and resolved as work is verified daily.
Financial Impact: Wisely using machinery so there is no damage to equipment. This employee handles a large amount of cleaning supplies and has access to all cleaning closets and storage areas. They can directly affect waste and conservation of cleaning supplies.
Judgement and Decisions: Taking the initiative to complete any unfinished tasks remaining from the housekeeping contractors as well as trouble shooting any other sanitation issues within all departments on all campuses.

Physical Demands: Bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and walking most of the work day are all physical requirements of this position. Manual dexterity and ability to operate machinery. Must be able to discern color as it pertains to reading chemical labels and SDS information. Must be able to handle dust, allergens and smells associated with cleaning and sanitizing with chemicals. Must be able to drive a vehicle.
Hazards: Most work will be in buildings with A/C, heat and good lighting. Slip, trips, falls or back injury carrying trash to between buildings outdoor dumpsters in all seasons and weather. Cleaning chemicals and fumes – respiratory injury and chemical burns.
Climbing ladders - falls
Mopping up wet floors – slips trips and falls
Picking up broken glass – lacerations
Pick up trash which may contain hazardous materials. – Blood borne pathogens
