Position Summary

This position is primarily responsible for teaching in the Associate Degree Registered Nursing Program. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the primary responsibility of this full-time 12-month faculty position is to provide quality instruction and supervision of student learning while maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom. Teaching responsibilities include classroom and clinical instruction. The faculty responds to students in a timely manner and communicates with the discipline and division via college-provided tools and resources. The faculty also serves as a program liaison, assisting with accreditation and regulatory assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Instructor:

  • Prepares instructional materials such as lectures, presentations, lab sessions, clinical and cooperative arrangements.
  • Uses various learning assessments to evaluate student mastery of course and program outcomes.
  • Provides feedback on student's progress, in a timely manner, to facilitate academic success
  • Prepares and submits required documentation including course syllabi, student attendance, final course grades and other information as requested or required by the college.
  • Disseminates current information pertaining to services available to students throughout the college.
  • Maintains professional development/growth according to personal needs and requirements for certification.
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned; may be assigned duties as an academic advisor; faculty advisor to a student club or organization; work in the Simulation Nursing Center; and/or mentoring other faculty.
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals.

Holistic Student Support

The Instructor:

  • Has familiarity with holistic support for students outside the classroom. These supports include Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Tutoring Services, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and the Center for Access and Disability Services.
  • Ensures that services and activities promote accessibility and reflect equity-minded practices.
  • Embraces and promotes the College's goals related to organizational culture and belongingness.
  • Supports the Nursing and Allied Health Division's efforts to utilize best practices in providing equity-minded services and support for students, faculty, and staff.

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

In clinical instruction, the Instructor:

  • Develops clinical practice objectives in order to identify clinical practice skills to be mastered using textbooks, agency procedures manuals and job descriptions, course syllabi, and accreditation criteria.
  • Selects and evaluates clinical facilities in order to provide the optimum learning environment for students using course objectives and knowledge of available clinical opportunities.
  • Identifies clinical practice experiences and client assignments in affiliating clinical agencies in order to provide the student with the optimum environment and opportunities to master (practice) clinical skills (competencies) using equipment and supplies in the campus practice laboratory, and client Kardex, charts and other medical records in clinical agencies.
  • Provides one-to-one supervision of student clinical practice performance in order to evaluate student mastery of clinical practice objectives and provide for the safety of all assigned clients using available clinical resources and clinical expertise.
  • Plans and conducts pre- and post-clinical conferences in order to facilitate clinical learning using group discussions, individual student presentations, and guest presenters.
  • Grades nursing care plans and other written assignments in order to determine the ability of the student to apply theoretical knowledge to the client care setting using written nursing care plan, grading criteria, and clinical practice guides.
  • Maintains records for clinical students in order to comply with clinical agency requirements and protect the student, clinical agencies, and the public using a variety of information sheets and forms.
  • Documents student clinical practice performance in order to provide a record of student progress or lack of progress towards mastery of required skills using course objectives, clinical evaluation forms, student counseling forms, and individual conferences.
  • Demonstrates teaching excellence by using evidence-based instructional practices that foster student learning.

The Instructor has knowledge of:

  • Adult learning theory, concepts and teaching methodologies
  • Curriculum design and development
  • Learning-centered values and student success initiatives
  • Demonstrated understanding of advising
  • College educational philosophy, management, and administrative practices and procedures
  • Principles, procedures, and practices of data collection and analysis
  • Emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods appropriately, including online delivery, hybrid course options, content software, web-enhancements, etc.
  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation and standards as it relates to assigned curriculum programs

The Instructor possesses skills that:

  • Design learning opportunities that promote student life skills development while enhancing discipline learning
  • Develop and implement diverse teaching and learning strategies that accommodate the learning styles of students and that promote both the acquisition and applications of knowledge and understanding
  • Use consistent, timely formative and summative assessment measures to enhance learning
  • Utilize emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods appropriately
  • Design learning opportunities that acknowledge, draw upon, and are enriched by student diversity in the learning environment
  • Design and implement a curriculum that aligns elements of student learning toward growth in the Student Learning Outcomes (SLP)and progression through course sequences
  • Display proficient use of personal computers and general office software

The Instructor holds abilities to:

Minimum Qualifications

The Instructor:

  • Holds a Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning OR a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with completion of M.S.N degree within three years of employment
  • Holds a current unrestricted registered nursing license to practice as a registered nurse in Tennessee.
  • Must have two (2) calendar years of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse.

Preferred Qualifications

The Instructor:

  • Has community college teaching experience
