Job Title: Instructor of Occupational Therapy Assistant

Job Grade: 907

Campus Location: Walters State Community College - Niswonger Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC campuses.)

Job Purpose: The Instructor for the OTA Program is responsible for providing educational lectures and training opportunities for OTA students in compliance with ACOTE accreditation standards and Walters State Community College policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

• Teach assigned courses as agreed upon with program director providing instruction in technology enhanced class settings including interactive streaming and online distance technology as well as instruction with simulation clinical equipment. Also, collaborative teaching with a team of peers
• Contribute to the OTA curriculum design by participating in the development, evaluation, and revision of instructional materials including syllabi course plans, objectives, laboratory activities, teaching materials, and evaluation tools as well as prepare the syllabi, course materials, examinations, and establish and complete goals for individual and department.
• Participate in curriculum design, strategic planning, recruiting, advising, departmental, divisional, faculty, and college committees and boards as well as accreditation activities.
• Schedule times to meet with students to advise current and prospective OTA and health program students according to WSCC and OTA Program policies as well as participate in the admissions process for all students assigned by the program director.
• Communicate with the student(s) the objective and responsibilities associated with the course while providing classroom and lab instruction to ensure the course learning and student learning outcomes are achieved at a level consistent with OTA standards and in the most efficient style to promote student success.
• Adhere to the policies and procedures of Walters State Community College, the Health Division, and the Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• Comply with class schedules as to dates of classes, time in class and final exam schedule. Start class in a timely manner. Arrive early to class to be prepared for the students.
• Maintain accurate and complete course records as well as maintaining classrooms and labs according to WSCC policies and procedures and in a manner conducive to student learning and safety.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from a regionally accredited institution and a baccalaureate degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE recognized regional or national accrediting body.
  
• Licensed or license eligible in State of Tennessee as COTA
  
• Minimum of three-year work experience as Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Documentation of expertise in the assigned area of teaching responsibility
  
• Teaching experience with a group of individuals, preferably in the field of Occupational Therapy.
  
• Current NBCOT OTA certification

Leadership & Supervisory: This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but is expected to participate as part of a team in conjunction with other health programs faculty.

Environment & Working Conditions: Office environment is temperature controlled with occasional fluctuations, well lit, and free from loud noises and unnecessary interruptions. Exposure to disease could be potentially hazardous. Exposure to bodily fluids can occasionally occur.

Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):

• Large amounts of time spent looking at computer monitors could lead to some eye strain, stress, or headache issues.
• Repetitive stress injuries could occur.
• Travel to local areas may be required.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
