POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

TITLE: Instructor - Welding Technology 

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Faculty - Exempt - Salary

DIRECT SUPERVISION FROM: Vice President of Academics and Compliance

OFFICE LOCATION:  2905 US 231 North, Shelbyville, TN 37160 

HOURS: Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (minimum 37.5 hours per week)

SALARY: $51,149-$61,379 annually, commensurate with education and experience                                                                        

FUNCTION OF THE JOB:

Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Shelbyville is accepting applications for a Full-Instructor in Welding Technology. This position is responsible for providing high-quality classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction to high school and adult students, preparing them for employment in the welding industry.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individualized classroom and lab instruction to high school and adult students to prepare them for careers in welding.
  • Deliver and demonstrate instruction in welding techniques (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, OFC, and PAC) in both classroom and lab settings.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document student progress and performance. 
  • Maintain accurate student records and submit required reports in a timely manner.  
  • Demonstrate safe and effective use of industry tools, equipment, and instrumentation.  
  • Ensure a safe, organized training environment in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and industry safety standards.  
  • Assist with student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts. 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with business and industry partners; support advisory committee activities to strengthen program quality and relevance. 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current in HVAC/R industry standards and practices. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (HiSET acceptable).
  • Postsecondary diploma or A.A.S. in Welding or related field preferred.
  • AWS Certification Level I or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • 3+ years of approved work experience in the welding occupation:
    • Experience with SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, OFC, and PAC using various materials.
    • Fabrication and blueprint reading experience.
    • Technical teaching experience a plus.
  • Proficient in the principles and practices of the welding industry.
  • Skilled in using industry-standard tools and equipment.
  • Capable of teaching students tool use, layout interpretation, and blueprint reading for fabrication.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and other common software programs.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills for effective teaching.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school and adult learners and to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, staff, faculty, industry partners, and the public.
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) labeling and policy a plus.
  • Physically able to perform instructional demonstrations and tasks, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 30 lbs., with or without accommodation. 
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
