Job Summary
Roane State Community College is inviting applications for qualified candidates for the position of Applied Technology Lab Technician. The successful candidate will support laboratory activities in the following program areas:
• Chemical Engineering Technology
• Computer Information Technology
• Environmental Health Technology
• Mechatronics Technology
• Nuclear Technology
Applied technology labs are located on the Oak Ridge Branch Campus, Anderson County Higher Education Center, and the Roane County Campus. Lab classes are taught both in daytime and evening timeslots (including some weekends).
Job Duties
• General maintenance and repair of equipment and instrumentation used in the Applied Technology labs under the direction of the associated Program Directors.
• Coordinate warranty and non-warranty repairs requiring outside vendor support.
• Maintain safety protocol requirements, interacting with RSCC Environmental Health and Safety Compliance Manager.
• Routinely review safety gear supplies and materials to ensure availability for lab activities.
• Lead and coordinate lab supply purchases, restock orders as they are received.
• Interact with students to demonstrate trouble shooting and equipment repair techniques.
• Availability during some lab sessions for support of class activities.
• Organize and label tools, equipment, and materials for efficient access and storage.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of lab activities across multiple campus locations.
• Assist directors with operation procedure generation of major equipment / processes.
• Maintain organized records and files regarding operational procedures, manuals and equipment documentation
• Assist with capital inventory tracking in conjunction with RSCC accounting. This would include accounting of supplies as determined by each program director.
• Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date inventory of all chemicals used or stored in the laboratory. Ensure that each chemical has a corresponding, current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) readily accessible in both digital and/or physical form in accordance with OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associates degree or higher in a technical field.
• Demonstrable experience in laboratory equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
Preferred Qualifications
• Work experience in mechanical equipment, process equipment, and a variety of instrumentation.
• Teaching experience in applied technology.
• Knowledge of the role and purpose of the community college in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage supplies, tasks, and logistics across multiple labs.
• Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, the ability to work with students of all ages, and exhibit flexibility and collegiality.
• Knowledge and commitment to demonstrating safe operations in the laboratory.
