Job Summary:
The Librarian/Instruction Services is responsible for coordinating the library's user engagement and instruction program efforts. Working collaboratively, they develop, implement, and assess programming, activities, instruction, and projects designed to improve and enhance student success by engagement with librarians and library resources.
Job Duties:
Coordinates the library instruction services and materials for students at all campuses, including scheduling, content development, outreach to and collaboration with faculty, service as embedded librarian upon request, and assessment of the program. Develops and teaches library instruction sessions and workshops on how to research and use library resources; provides reference services; both in-person and virtually, including nights and weekends as needed. Promotes inclusive teaching practices and a commitment to accessibility in the development of content and programs. Coordinates with Library Specialists at regional centers to facilitate library instruction and engagement. As needed and directed, assists the Librarian/Electronic Resources and Technical Services with the organization, design, and maintenance of the library’s content management products, such as SpringShare’s LibGuides and LibCal. Collaborates with Learning Commons to develop and implement programs for student and learning support. Takes the lead in identifying, cultivating, and developing outreach and engagement activities, making direct connections with students, faculty, and staff, and the community at large to promote and support collaborations and activities that will enhance success at all levels. Works collaboratively to develop relationships within the Vol State community. Identifies potential partnerships and creates, implements, and assesses programming, activities, and projects designed to facilitate engagement and collaboration within the Vol State community. Communicate the library's services and resources through programs, activities, and social media. Contributes to collection development by selecting and deselecting materials to support the college’s academic programs and mission. Participates in college and department meetings, serves on various college committees. Partakes in professional development activities. Monitors and engages with current library trends for instruction, outreach, and engagement. Evaluates, recommends, and implements emerging technologies and mobile applications as appropriate. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
Two years of teaching or training experience in a library or related setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching or training at the college level or in a library environment.
Academic library experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrable enthusiasm for teaching and working with students, faculty, and the Vol State community.
Strong knowledge of current trends and techniques related to information literacy instruction and online learning.
Awareness of emerging technologies for the academic and library environment.
Highly developed computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web authoring tools (SpringShare) and course management systems (D2L, Blackboard) and virtual presentation tools (Teams, Zoom).
Fluency with library databases and other resources that support teaching and learning.
Solid problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Superb customer service skills; Ability to provide excellent reference and instruction services in all formats for students and faculty in an academic library.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Pay Rate: $51,857 - $64,821 annual salary depending on experience
