Maintenance and Grounds Supervsior_Knoxvile_RSCC Internal Applicants Only
The Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, upkeep, and safety of campus facilities and outdoor spaces. This role ensures that buildings, classrooms, and common areas are well-maintained, while also managing the care of landscaping and exterior grounds. The supervisor provides hands-on leadership to maintenance and grounds staff, coordinates work schedules, and ensures compliance with safety standards and college policies.
Job Duties
Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and service providers for specialized repair or construction projects.
Schedule and assign daily work orders and preventive maintenance activities using the college’s work order system.
Supervise and participate in the work of maintenance staff performing general building repairs, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry tasks.
Inspects buildings, equipment and grounds to determine maintenance/repair needs; manages and prioritizes work orders.
Assigns, trains, supervises and evaluates other maintenance and grounds workers.
Keeps supply records and forecasts material needs; orders/maintains equipment, materials and supplies.
Performs general facilities maintenance tasks including:
o inspection and repair of lighting fixtures, switches, wall outlets, plumbing pipes and fixtures.
Tensioning or replacing belts, changing filters, cleaning, and lubricating mechanical systems including air handlers, pumps, and exhaust fans. o general maintenance and repairs to various grounds keeping equipment. o basic carpentry tasks.
Moves and relocates furniture and equipment as required and assists with preparations for meetings and special events on campus
Supervise groundskeeping operations, including mowing, trimming, landscaping, snow removal and litter control.
Responds to campus emergencies (e.g. power outages, weather events, etc.)
Serve as primary contact after hours or weekend maintenance emergencies.
Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
May require lifting up to 50 lbs. and operating maintenance and grounds equipment.
Must be available for afterhours and weekend emergency calls as needed (e.g. during inclement weather to get campus ready for faculty/staff and students to return, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
• 5 or more years facilities maintenance experience with 2 or more years supervisory experience required. • Experience in general building, equipment, and grounds maintenance. • High school diploma or equivalent required. • Valid state driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in college setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of methods, materials, and procedures used in general repair and maintenance work. • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
