Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Murfreesboro is accepting applications for the position of Facilities Coordinator for its two campuses located in Murfreesboro and Smyrna. This is a full-time position requiring a minimum 37.5-hour workweek.

Under the general direction of the President, the Facilities Coordinator provides leadership, oversight, and administrative management for the operation, maintenance, repair, and safety of all on- and off-campus facilities. The position supervises maintenance and custodial staff and ensures compliance with applicable state, TBR, and institutional policies and procedures.

The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for planning, budgeting, project management, regulatory compliance, and maintaining a safe and functional environment that supports student success and institutional operations.

Job Duties (Duties and responsibilities listed are examples of work performed and may be modified as needs of the college dictate.)

  • Directs and supervises maintenance and custodial personnel across both campuses.
  • Coordinates and assigns work schedules, preventive maintenance programs, and daily operational tasks.
  • Oversees maintenance, repair, and renovation projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion.
  • Develops and administers the annual Facilities Services budget.
  • Monitors departmental expenditures and approves purchases necessary to maintain facility operations.
  • Manages vendor contracts and coordinates with external contractors and service providers.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, TBR, OSHA, fire safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Oversees facility inspections, safety audits, and corrective action plans.
  • Maintains inventory control systems for equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Collaborates with campus leadership to support capital improvement planning and long-range facilities planning.
  • Responds to emergency facility issues and coordinates after-hours response as necessary.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation related to facilities operations and projects.
  • Promotes a culture of safety, professionalism, and customer service within the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in facilities management, construction management, business administration, industrial maintenance, or related field.
    Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management, building maintenance, or related operations.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing maintenance or facilities-related projects.
  • Working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.).
  • Valid Tennessee driver’s license (or ability to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience in a higher education or public sector environment.
  • Experience with state procurement procedures and budget administration.
  • OSHA or safety-related certifications.
  • Experience overseeing multi-site facilities operations.
  • Experience in building and plant maintenance work involving knowledge of carpentry, masonry, building automation, painting, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and low-voltage control systems.
  • Proven success in project management with facilities/maintenance projects.

  • Knowledge of facilities operations, preventive maintenance systems, and building infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff effectively.
  • Ability to manage budgets and control expenditures.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively during emergencies.
  • Proficiency in standard office software and maintenance management systems.

SALARY: This is a part-time hourly position with a salary of $25/hour. This is a non-exempt position.  Salary commensurate with qualifications, education, experience and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
