Title: Mathematics Success Coach

Salary: $21 an hour, for 15-20 hours per week.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Mathematics, the Math Success Coach is responsible for supporting student recruitment, enrollment, and retention within the Mathematics Division by connecting current and potential students to available resources. The coach is responsible for monitoring, advising, and coaching a caseload of students in mathematics courses to promote academic success. This position focuses on student support and success services and does not include teaching or grading responsibilities.

Job Duties

• Provide proactive outreach and individualized support to students enrolled in mathematics courses.

• Monitor student participation and engagement indicators and communicate with students regarding attendance, course participation, and academic progress concerns.

• Assist students in navigating learning technologies, including the learning management system, online homework platforms, college email, and other instructional technologies.

• Serve as a liaison between students and faculty by assisting students with appropriate communication and helping them connect with instructors.

• Connect students with appropriate academic support services.

• Assist students in identifying and addressing barriers to course completion by connecting them with appropriate campus resources.

• Conduct outreach through email, phone, text messaging, and other approved communication methods to encourage student engagement and persistence.

• Maintain accurate records of student contacts, interventions, referrals, and outcomes using approved college systems.

• Collaborate with mathematics faculty, academic advisors, student success personnel, and other relevant staff members to support student retention initiatives.

• Participate in division meetings, training activities, and professional development opportunities as appropriate.

• Assist with student success initiatives and special projects related to mathematics student retention and completion.

• Collect and compile data related to student engagement and support activities for assessment and reporting purposes. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in an educational setting

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of student facing experience in higher education.
• Professional community college experience.
• One year of experience in a STEM-related environment
• Conversational ability or fluency in a language other than English

• Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to establish rapport and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to communicate with individuals from a range of backgrounds.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation.
• Knowledge of student success and retention practices in higher education.
• Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems.
