The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is Tennessee's largest higher education system, governing 40 post-secondary educational institutions with over 200 teaching locations. The TBR system includes 13 community colleges and 27 colleges of applied technology, providing programs to students across the state, country and world.

Network Manager

This position will provide management of Columbia State’s network, and ensure its smooth and secure operation. This includes coordination of network design and implementation, planning and directing upgrades of the current infrastructures. The network administrator will provide recommendations and work closely with the IT Team for support data, voice, and video use of information technology by faculty, staff and students at the college.

 

Essential Functions: 

  1. Install, configure and manage the data network including design, implementation, monitoring and maintenance including bridges, routers, switches, firewalls and other network devices.
  2. Manage and maintain connections to the Internet and other state and/or educational network.
  3. Coordinate new network applications and assists implementation of those applications.
  4. Consistently seek new and optimized network management solutions and maintain relationships with network solution providers
  5. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot network issues..
  6. Develop and maintain network related documentation including network diagrams, inventory and configuration details and procedures.
  7. Oversee and maintain the campuses wireless network.
  8. Work with TBR network manager(s).
  9. Assures and coordinates telecom functionality.
  10. Work with helpdesk coordinator to provide technical support to end-users
  11. Assists systems administrator with student, faculty, and staff network servers.
  12. Perform regular security audits and implement best security practices.
  13. Monitors campus systems for compliance to cyber security best practices , approved polices,  and acceptable use guidelines.

 

Supplemental Functions:

  1. Provide support for off-campus users with access to on-campus resources.
  2. Helps to create specifications and evaluates network solution providers and
  3. Ensures that audit guidelines are being followed.
  4. Support colleges cyber security efforts.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Training and Experience Required:

  1. Minimum of Associates degree
  2. Minimum of 6 years of experience in appropriately sized network management

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:

  1.  Strong knowledge of Windows Server OS, Linux, Internet protocols, Cisco IOS, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs and network configurations and maintenance.  Network certifications would be a plus.
  2. Excellent analytic and troubleshooting skills
  3. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English.
  4. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  5. Knowledge of troubleshooting and remote access tools such as Ping, Traceroute, nslookup, PuTTY, RDP, Wireshark, Auvik, cable testers, Wyebot

 

Working Conditions:

  1. Ability to work in enclosed environments such as wiring closets
  2. Must possess the manual dexterity to operate tools (i.e. screwdrivers, cable management systems, crimping tools
  3. Ability to reach high shelves and spaces low to the floor.

 

Hiring Salary Range:  $63,400 - $79,250

This position is based at the Columbia, TN Campus.
