General Function: 

Provide high quality effective instruction in accordance with the catalog description and the approved course syllabus; Facilitate student learning, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes, using each course's standard course outline as a guide; Advise and mentor students about academic and career goals

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in Nursing and an unencumbered Tennessee Registered Nursing License.

Three years of nursing experience required, and medical surgical clinical expereince preferred

Preferred Qualifications: 

Demonstrated experience teaching in multiple modalities including online, hybrid, and on-ground.  Experience in online course development. Previous community college teaching experience. Nursing practice experience in various settings.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the description published in the current college catalog, the approved course syllabus, and the assigned schedule of classes.
  • Maintain a high level of professional competency by keeping abreast of current developments in one's field, including teaching techniques and forms of delivery. The college supports this activity by making funds available for professional development within budgetary constraints.
  • Assist in keeping the instructional program resources current by recommending additional library, laboratory, and instructional equipment and assisting in maintaining adequate resource materials for student use
  • Submit to the appropriate dean at the beginning of each term an outline for each course taught.
  • Cooperate with other instructors and curriculum chairs in implementing instructional procedures agreed upon and recommending textbook changes.
  • Communicate all professional concerns to the appropriate dean.    
  • Serve on standing and ad hoc committees as possible when requested
  • Post and maintain office hours which provide adequate time for academic advisement with students; out-of-class meetings with students and colleagues; and faculty, division, and departmental meetings.    
  • Advise students and assist with registration for classes    
  • Maintain student attendance records for all classes and work with the appropriate offices to report excessive absences.
  • Participate in graduation exercises unless excused by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Excuses are given only under extenuating circumstances.    
  • Participate in the faculty evaluation process.
  • Cooperate with Director of Disability and Testing Services in providing reasonable accommodation for all students certified as having special needs consistent with policies of the Americans with Disabilities Act.    
  • Advisors should assist students in planning their course schedules to meet the requirements for their programs of study;
  • Advisors should be available for periodic meetings to evaluate students' progress
  • Advisors should assist students in establishing occupational and career goals referring them to other resources for specialized assistance;
  • Advisors may coordinate students' learning experiences from their initial enrollment to their program completion
  • Advisors should approve and sign required documents and forms as needed during students' enrollment
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of general nursing policies, procedures, and practices
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in health care
  • Strong interpersonal sklls, the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and the ability to work and function within a team
  • Research, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to evaluate and make decisions regarding students and health care agencies, while maintaining confidentiality 
  • Strong computer skills, including presentation programs, remote meeting programs, recording programs , email, internet and LM systems
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to assist and actively participate in the accreditation process
