Payroll Director

Maintains and supervises payroll process and performs a broad scope of accounting activities to support Business Services.

 

Essential Functions: 

Payroll

  1. Supervise payroll clerk.
  2. Review payrolls for accuracy and completeness.
  3. Maintain Banner HR tables relating to payroll and employee deductions and benefits.
  4. Train Assistant Vice President Faculty Curriculum and Programs and secretary to enter payroll information for adjuncts.
  5. Set up new employees in Edison for health, life, dental, optional special accident and long term care.
  6. Review payroll accounting feeds.

 

General

  1. Review accounts payable entry.
  2. Review financial aid student award entry.
  3. Run check and direct deposit processes for accounts payable in Banner and Evisions.
  4. Serve as backup reviewer for daily transaction control.
  5. Assist in year-end closing process.
  6. Assist in preparation of annual financial reports.
  7. Prepare various required and ad hoc financial reports as requested.
  8. Assist in preparation of College budgets.
  1. Assist in roll and entry of College budgets.
  1. Assist at registration and distribution of financial aid checks.
  2. Assist in risk assessment activities.
  3. Assist in contract review and approval.
  4. Assist state and internal auditors during audits.
  5. Review processes for improvement opportunities.

 

Supplemental Functions:

  1. Assist other Business Services employees as needed.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Training and Experience Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business area or public administration required.
  2. Three years of payroll preparation or supervision experience required.
  3. Experience in higher education accounting preferred.
  4. Experience or training in Excel and Word required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  1. Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures.
  2. Experience with computerized payroll and accounting systems.
  3. Organization skills.
  4. Ability to make independent judgments.
  5. Ability to work as part of a team or work alone.
  6. Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.

 

Working Conditions:

  1. Normal standing, sitting and walking.
  2. Some lifting of approximately 30 lbs.
  3. Work with video display.
  4. Overtime required, particularly during budgets, year end financial statements, financial aid disbursements and other peak periods.

Hiring Salary Range:  $54,190 - $67,730

This position is based at the Columbia, TN Campus.
