Pellissippi State Community College Internships

The purpose of the Pellissippi State Community College’s Internship Program is to attract diverse candidates to the college who can provide a new perspective on organizational issues and introduce best practices within higher education or a departmental discipline.

All interns will be expected to rotate through various aspects of the department to gain institutional knowledge to include shadowing management. Interns will have interaction with executive leadership and, depending on the department, parents, students, and outside vendors.

The intern is responsible for finding suitable housing within the Knoxville metropolitan area. Preference in hiring will be given to Junior and Senior undergraduates and graduate students enrolled in a relevant degree program.

Internships may be conducted during any academic semester (18 weeks) or during the summer (11 weeks). Interns will be expected to work up to 30 hours per week Compensation* Undergraduate interns: $15 ; Graduate interns: $17

*Does not apply if the intern’s institution prohibits compensation in lieu of course credit.

Athletics Interns

Sports Operations Intern

The General Operations Intern will support the College Athletics Department by assisting with the setup, execution, and takedown of athletic events. This role involves a variety of operational tasks before, during, and after events, ensuring smooth and efficient event management. The intern will work closely with the department to prepare for and execute high-quality athletic events.

Sports Video Production Intern

The Video Production Intern will support the Athletics Department by capturing and editing video content to create highlight reels, promotional videos, and other digital media for social platforms, the department website, and YouTube. The intern will work closely with the athletics department through high-quality video content.

Sports Digital Media Intern

The Digital Media Interns will support the Athletics Department by creating engaging and dynamic content for various digital platforms. This role involves graphic design, social media management, and assisting with broadcasting and other duties as assigned. The intern will work closely with the SID to enhance the department's digital presence and engage with the community.

Enrollment Services/Financial Aid Intern

The internship will be an excellent opportunity to assist the Office of Enrollment Services at our four campus locations by answering questions and assisting new and returning students through the enrollment process from admissions through registration. Interns will be “enrollment services specialists” or “financial aid specialists” who will be trained to answer questions in all areas of enrollment: Admissions, Records, Financial Aid and Scholarships. Interns will be provided the opportunity to represent Pellissippi State at recruitment events and organize, plan, and implement recruitment events at all campuses.

Undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of marketing, public relations, communications, event planning and graduate students in college student personnel or related fields are encouraged to apply.

Expectations:
• Serve as a primary contact to new students. Guide high school, transfer, re-entry students and adult learners through the enrollment process as they relate to admissions and financial aid. Counsel students on academic and career programs and their respective transfer or career opportunities.
• Represent Pellissippi State at college and career fairs.
• Assist with the planning, oversight and implementation of effective recruitment events for prospective students at all five campus locations.
• Assist the Records Office with transcript analysis, transcript/enrollment verification, graduation, and course scheduling.

Institutional Compliance/Tennessee Consortium for International Studies (TNCiS) Intern

Intern will act as a liaison between the offices of Equity & Compliance, TNCIS and HR. Student must be adaptable, and possess typing and technology skillsets, specifically Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel); must be able to create slideshow presentations.

Responsibilities include:

• Assist in answering phones/student walk-ins during high volume hours in the TNCIS office.
• Assist with student recruiting at PSCC. This may include in-person events, virtual events and developing content for social media.
• Review/edit of the TNCIS website.
• Assist the Cultural Engagement and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility objectives of the office of Equity & Compliance.
• Experience in researching and helping to develop programs and alliances with international cultures and organizations.
• Assist the Coordinator of the Cultural Engagement and Inclusion as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Human Resources Intern

The Human Resources Department at Pellissippi State is seeking an intern. Preferred applicants will be enrolled in a business or human resource management undergraduate or graduate program. Interns will rotate through various disciplines within human resources such as employee relations, staffing, benefits, compliance and training. The intern will report to the Executive Director, Human Resources, and/or the Benefits, Manager, and be involved with management and leadership at the college. The intern may have an opportunity to work directly with the office of Equity and Compliance or the Payroll department.

Information Technology (IT) Intern

The intern will assist with customer technical support, web page development, and administrative functions.

Qualifications:
• A basic understanding of how computers and information technology work.
• A basic ability to troubleshoot problems to determine a root cause.
• Ability to listen to and comprehend customer's problems.
• Ability to clearly communicate instructions to customers.
• Basic customer service skills with the ability to interact with frustrated customers, provide calming reassurance in a de-escalating manner, while working to solve technical problems.
• Experience with WordPress is preferred but not required.

Marketing & Communications Intern

The Marketing & Communications Office is looking for an outgoing and experienced visual, digital, and social media intern to assist in documenting students and campus activities for the use of marketing purposes. This intern is expected to have experience in photography and videography, as well as post production experience with video and photo editing software within the Adobe Creative Cloud.

Responsibilities would include:
• Assisting the campus photographer/videographer with events, campus photography/videography.
• Serving as a grip or production assistant during video shoots
• Assisting with scriptwriting
• Recruiting students to appear in videos or photos used to promote the college
• Setting up equipment/lighting for video/photo shoots
• Video/photo post editing
• Other duties related to the position as required by the visual media coordinator

Qualifications:
• A DLSR camera preferred
• Experience in both photography and video production
• Excellent communication skills
• Creativity and the ability to be innovative and adaptable on the fly
• A good attitude and strong work ethic

Student Orientation/Success Intern

The Orientation/Success Intern will assist the Director, StayStrong Center in planning and implementing orientation and student success events across our four campuses in and around Knoxville. The intern will also work closely with a team from Pellissippi State and the University of Tennessee to implement the Volunteer Bridge Program Orientation during the summer.

Responsibilities include:
• Assist with training, coaching, and mentoring student leaders from five campuses
• Work with numerous college departments and faculty to coordinate events
• Present to students and parents at orientation events
• Assist with website and database maintenance and updates
• Assist with Tennessee Promise programing and Tennessee Reconnect programing
• Assist with community service opportunities as required by Tennessee Promise Scholarship program

Qualifications:
• Current graduate student, or rising senior with an interest in College Student Personnel and Higher Education Administration

Preferred Skills:
• Excellent presentation and communication skills
• Experience leading and coaching groups
• Ability to utilize electronic databases Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Social Work Intern

Social Work Interns who are selected to work with the Department of Student Care and Advocacy and/or Counseling Services will have the opportunity to be involved in micro and macro level social work practice. Some activities will include: intakes, referrals, case management, grant writing and program development around issues related to housing & food security and other barriers to program success.

The Student Care and Advocacy Department (provides basic needs assistance to Pellissippi State students ) is actively seeking a strong undergraduate intern to work out of Pellissippi State’s Blount County campus. Responsibilities would include assisting with the day-to-day operations of the walk-in food pantry, conducting outreach to the campus community, completing needs assessments with students, and providing non-intensive case management services in collaboration with our full-time professionals and graduate interns.

Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL) Intern

The Student, Engagement and Leadership (SEAL) team at Pellissippi State Community College is looking for an enthusiastic, responsible, resourceful, and innovative intern to support and enhance co-curricular learning through projects, events, initiatives that promote student involvement. The intern would conduct programs and trainings, facilitate dialogues, create resources, and seek feedback from current students. Preferred candidates will be enrolled in a higher education, organizational leadership, education, or college student personnel graduate program.

Additional responsibilities:
• Assist with the coordination of The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS)
• Conduct leadership workshops for student clubs and advisors
• Consult with student leaders regarding their groups
• Assist in the development of leadership resource guides and programming materials
• Develop creative marketing ideas for student programming
• Attend weekly meetings with Student Life staff
• Perform other similar and related duties as assigned

The intern will report to the Coordinator, SEAL.

Student Conduct Intern

The Dean of Students office at Pellissippi State is seeking an intern. Preferred candidates will be enrolled in a higher education, human services, education, or college student personnel graduate program.

The Dean of Students office is responsible for student conduct administration, behavior intervention response, student life, and recreation operations at the college. The interns will assist with daily functions of student conduct administration as well as work on long term programs and services though the Dean of Students office.

Daily work will include:
• Reviewing reported incidents for potential student conduct violations
• Following up with reporting parties
• Ensuring students are afforded their due process rights
• Facilitating serious and caring conversations with students who may need assistance to be successful
• Following up with students who have participated in the conduct process

The intern will be supervised directly by the AVP, Student Affairs/Dean of Students.

Interns will also work toward implementing new programs though the Dean of Students office. Programs may include: conflict resolution models, sexual misconduct educational outreach, developing educational sanctions, general outreach and education to the college community, or the development of online education tools. Other projects may be added or removed depending upon the needs of the college and our students.

Interns will work closely with various campus offices, including, but not limited to: college police department, equity and compliance, Title IX coordinator, counseling, advising, campus deans, academic departments, and student life. The successful candidate will have the utmost respect for policy compliance, confidentiality of information, possess strong communication skills, and be able to demonstrate care and concern for students who are facing difficulties at the college.

Student Recreation Intern

The Student Recreation office at Pellissippi State Community College is looking for an enthusiastic, responsible, resourceful, and innovative intern to support and enhance co-curricular learning through projects, events, initiatives that promote student involvement and engagement through recreation. Preferred candidates will be enrolled in a higher education, college student personnel, or sports management program.

Additional responsibilities:
• Assist with the coordination and development of campus intramural and recreation opportunities
• Plan and implement programming focusing on establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle
• Develop creative marketing ideas for student recreation
• Attend weekly meetings with Student Life staff
• Perform other similar and related duties as assigned

The intern will report directly to the Student Recreation Manager and to the Director, SEAL.

Tennessee Small Business Development Center (prefer Accounting/Finance majors)
The Tennessee Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is searching for a student intern that will handle a range of important duties. The intern will be working with small business owners in the development of budgets and financial management. The intern will report to the Director of SBDC. While interning, the candidate will also work under the direction of three small business consultants where the intern can apply theoretical knowledge of accounting and finance into real world business challenges.

Preference in hiring will be given to rising senior undergraduates and graduate students enrolled in an accounting or finance program.

The intern will be required to collect, understand, process and report accounting related information to counselors and be very detailed oriented in the analysis and management of financial data. Will need to develop spreadsheets and financial information for small business owner who have limited financial acumen.

Tennessee Consortium for International Studies (TnCIS) Intern
The intern will assist with front end office management, web page redesign, student recruitment, social media planning, and administrative functions. Student must be able to work independently on multiple projects with guidance from TnCIS Staff. Must also possess typing and technology skillsets, specifically Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Responsibilities include:

• Assist in answering phones/student walk-ins during high volume hours in the TnCIS office.
• Assist with student recruiting at PSCC. This may include in-person events, virtual events and developing content for social media.
• Review/edit/testing of the TnCIS website and application process.
• Other duties as assigned.

Workforce & Community Development Intern

The WCD intern will assist with social media planning (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Constant Contact Newsletters) for WCD and Lifelong Learning classes. The intern will also assist the department with database development/updates, administrative functions, and other assigned projects from WCD staff.

Student must be able to work independently on multiple projects with guidance from WCD Staff. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Graphic design and writing skills will also be necessary skillsets in this position.

Responsibilities include:

Develop social media posts, flyers, and digital newsletters to promote lifelong learning classes and workforce development classes.
Assist department with suggestions for adding depth to WCD page on the college’s new website.
Assist with development of procedural manuals for the department and updating databases (XenDirect, Sales Force, and Instructor Database).
Assist with copying and assembling training binders as needed.
Assist in answering phones/customer walk-ins as necessary in the front office (only in substitute situations).
Other duties as assigned.
