Job Summary
• Possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to teach all areas of Power Line Construction and Maintenance Technology.
• Must be proficient in Power Line Basics, industry-accepted Safety Practices, Climbing Wood and Steel Structures, Electrical Theory and Concepts, Electric Utility Operations, Underground Power Line Construction, and Single Phase and Three Phase Transformer Connections.
• Provide individualized classroom, lab, and field work instruction to postsecondary and secondary students to prepare them for employment in power line construction and maintenance fields.
• Teach students safe and effective practices in: Overhead and underground line construction, climbing wood and steel structures and rigging techniques, equipment operation (bucket truck, digger derrick, etc.), electrical system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Commitment to remain current in the Power Line Construction and Maintenance field and maintain accreditation standards.
• Monitor, grade, and evaluate students’ progress and maintain student records.
• Assist in the recruitment and placement of students.
• Participate in professional development activities.
• Maintain good public relations with business and industry and develop and maintain an advisory group comprised of industry personnel for continued program improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Job Duties
Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Post-secondary training from an industry-accepted Lineman Training program.
• Must have a minimum of 3 years' experience in the power line construction and maintenance field as a Lineman and be a Journeyman Lineman.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and industry safety standards.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
• High level skills in oral and written communication.
• Evidence of strong work ethic as it relates to timeliness of reporting, oversight of multiple on-going projects, and the ability to work with others.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Ability to deal tactfully with the students, public, and co-workers; to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
