Salary Range: $51,623 - $64,532

Campus Location: Walters State Community College - Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

Job Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to support student success by providing guidance, counseling, and resources for academic, career, and personal development. The role assists students in clarifying their educational and career objectives, identifying and addressing barriers, making well-informed decisions, and creating effective action plans to achieve their goals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Delivers personal, academic, and career counseling services to students, staff, and faculty, supporting both current and prospective students. 
  • Administers and proctors placement tests, career assessments, and certification/licensure exams (including Pearson Vue, Hiset, Hesi A2, Praxis, CLEP, Kryterion, and Meazure Learning). Interprets and communicates testing results to students individually or in groups.
  • Guides students in selecting appropriate degree and certificate pathways, and provides support for job placement for students and graduates.
  • Engages in public relations and outreach efforts, and leads educational and mental health awareness campaigns on the Morristown campus.
  • Serves as a liaison by actively participating in campus committees, such as the Alcohol and Drug Committee and Behavior Intervention Team, and represents the college on the state Health & Safety College Communications (CHASCO) coalition.
  • Travel to other campuses as needed for counseling or testing services.
  • May perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in Counseling
  • Licensure to Administer Counseling
  • Two to four years of career experience in a highly-related position
  • A deep and comprehensive understanding of human behavior, developmental psychology, and higher education
  • Computer literacy and basic skills in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a counselor at another academic institution or private practice

Leadership & Supervisory: The incumbent has no authority or responsibility for others, project direction, and/or program administration. The incumbent is supervised with general direction, though most tasks are guided by broad policies and procedures. Employee will often participate in setting objectives.

Environment & Working Conditions:  Working conditions in the office are clean and well-lit, with limited interruptions and a moderate but constant noise level. Occasional temperature fluctuations occur. Potential risk when in contact with aggressive students.

Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):

  • Sits at the computer for an extended period of time, utilizing several different software applications, creating the possibility of neck, back, and eye strain.
  • Scheduling for the administration of tests may occur outside of normal work hours.
