Position Summary: Do you have a passion for sharing your expertise, craft or hobby with others? Pellissippi State’s noncredit lifelong learning program offers personal enrichment classes for the community with a wide range of topics, including: fitness, languages, musical instruments, arts and crafts, wellness, history, and more. Class participants are community members ages 18+. Some of the many benefits of teaching a lifelong learning class include working with engaged and enthusiastic adult learners and flexible class scheduling.
Our noncredit class schedule is released twice a year: spring/summer and fall. Classes can be as short as 90 minutes or up to 12 hours in length. Individual classes are typically only offered once or twice each semester. To see a list of our current offerings, visit www.pstcc.edu/wcd.
While we accept applications for all topics, we are prioritizing the following areas for spring/summer 2024: languages, basic photography, photo editing, gardening and composting, fitness for ages 55+, blacksmithing, resin arts and crafts, textiles, special interest history, and Microsoft 365 programs.
Instructors are expected to have a high level of expertise in the subject of their proposed class, and some experience in teaching or training others. While compensation can vary depending on the type of class being offered, noncredit instructors are generally paid starting at $40 per class hour or a flat fee per class, and work on a temporary, part-time contract.
Instructors are responsible for developing their class content with assistance from the Program Coordinator as needed, and teaching the class. The Workforce & Community Development office with work with instructors to determine the best format, date and time of offering, and will set the registration fee for the class.
As part of the employment application, please include in your cover letter or as a separate attachment, which topic you have an interest in teaching, your experience in that topic, and a draft outline of the class flow and activities. Applications that do not indicate a topic you are interested in teaching will not be considered.

(Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:
1 year of experience is recommended related to the topic the instructor will be teaching.
