JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for performing a variety of general accounting functions, including managing accounts receivable and preparing financial statement reports. This role will involve ensuring accurate financial records, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICIATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in accounting, business administration or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of work experience in accounting, business administration, or related field. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Financial Reporting and Reconciliations (40%)

  • Prepare and process daily journal entries including oversight of the journal entries completed by the Staff Accountant.
  • Oversee and prepare month-end closing processes for Accounts Receivable, Cash Flows, and Due-To / Due-From ledger accounts.
  • Manage monthly bank reconciliations including Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP) accounts.
  • Prepare and submit both monthly and quarterly reports to the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) or other state/federal entities including but not limited to the quarterly report of the President’s expenses.

Financial Oversight (20%)

  • Manage billing processes for all financial-related invoices for the college, including tuition and fees for students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to monitoring accounts receivable, following up on outstanding invoices, and implementing effective collection strategies as needed.
  • Serve as the Foundation’s accounting liaison, including invoicing and payments.

Audit Preparation and Compliance (25%)

  • Prepare financial reports for both capital expenses and state appropriations.
  • Prepare the Statement of Cash Flows annually and as needed throughout the fiscal year.
  • Prepare the Statement of Net Position annually and as needed throughout the fiscal year.
  • Analyze revenues, expenses, and changes in net assets during the respective fiscal year.

Project Monitoring and Classification (10%)

  • Record capital project balances for due to/from the state.
  • Reconcile projects in progress in both the college’s accounting system and those reported by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR).
  • Manager the college’s fixed asset module.
  • Capitalize and report completed construction projects.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (5%)

  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Promote, participate in, and support student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Serve on various campus committees.
  • Exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knowledge of accounting theories and practices involving auditing and budgeting procedures.
  • Knowledge of verbal and written communication skills consistent with interpreting policies and procedures, providing clear and concise information, and compiling information into complete and accurate summaries and reports.
  • Interpersonal skills consistent with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate a computer; to accurately process/control monetary transactions; to prioritize and manage workflow; to maintain confidentiality; to be flexible in meeting changing work demands; to evaluate situations and make decisions using sound judgment.
  • Utilize an Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) system (Banner).
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, and Microsoft Teams.

WORK ACTIVITIES & EQUIPMENT

Work activities routinely involve computers, scanners, and peripheral devices.

JOB LOCATION

This position is based on-site at the D.F. Adkisson Administration Building at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee. This role may require occasional travel and work outside of regular business hours, both on- and off-campus. This could include attending statewide meetings at TBR or other work-related travel as needed.
