Title: Shipping & Receiving Clerk

POSITION SUMMARY
The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for overseeing shipments and mail services, ensuring accurate receipt, distribution, and recordkeeping. The role also supports institutional operations by coordinating surplus property, managing waste disposal, and assisting with related service agreements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Process incoming mail, including picking up mail from the US Post Office and NSCC mail room. Process outgoing mail, including weighing, stamping, recording, and delivering to the US Post Office. Prepare daily and monthly postage charge reports and monthly journal entries to allocate postage expenses. Manage the central receiving loading dock area, inspecting shipments for quantity and quality before accepting deliveries. Take physical possession of vendor deliveries and maintain inventory of items in the loading dock.

Provide written communication regarding deliveries to the ordering department. Work with shipping and receiving team members to distribute shipments to NSCC departments. Assist with the Banner receiving process, verifying full receipt of purchase orders, and recording deliveries. Assist with surplus property coordination, including working with GovDeals for surplus sales. Assist in scheduling the disposal of electronic waste. Assist with managing the shredder and copier contract agreement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Degrees or equivalent

Possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license. Out of state applicants must obtain a Tennessee driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire

Ability to lift up to 80 pounds, stand on hard surfaces, and tolerate extreme temperatures

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates Degree

Working knowledge of Banner and SciQuest/Jaggaer electronic purchasing system.

Excel and Access skills.

Two years (2) relevant experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of receiving and delivering supplies, materials and equipment (e.g., forklift). Knowledge of business arithmetic. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Ability to lift up to 80 pounds, stand on hard surfaces, and tolerate extreme temperatures. Ability to receive, inspect, verify, and distribute merchandise on a prompt basis. Ability to drive light motor vehicle in performance of duties. Ability to process shipping related forms on an accurate and timely basis. Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. Ability to keep records and make operational reports. Ability to learn and follow Nashville State and Tennessee Board of Regent policy and procedures. Ability and willingness to work any shift assigned.

Rate of Pay: $34,354.00 - $41,228.00 depending on experience
