The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is Tennessee's largest higher education system, governing 40 post-secondary educational institutions with over 200 teaching locations. Social Media & Special Events Coordinator

Provides support to the Communications Department by promoting the college via various social media and digital channels while ensuring brand and messaging consistency, as well as planning, coordinating and publicizing special events. Focuses on highlighting the College’s achievements, and functions as department liaison to serve College’s internal and external audiences.


Essential Functions:


  • Creates and posts content to various social media networks on a daily basis, ensuring brand and message consistency across all channels.
  • Develops a content calendar for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.) that addresses multiple audiences.
  • Develops strategies for increasing engagement and followers on social media platforms.
  • Monitors and responds to inquiries and mentions via social media channels.
  • Ensures content sharing between the College’s website and social media platforms.
  • Assists with the development of digital marketing campaigns.
  • Creates and edits videos to engage stakeholders on various social media channels.
  • Writes digital content to highlight the college, academic programs and student and alumni success.
  • Provides support in maintaining and updating the College’s websites, including, myChargerNet and other interactive publications.
  • Keeps abreast of industry trends for social media, web and mobile technologies.
  • Plans, coordinates and publicizes special events as determined by the President’s office and Communications department.
  • Works with various internal and/or external stakeholders for event planning execution, including submitting facility requests, catering requests and media services requests.
  • Participates actively in project and process meetings as necessary for the accurate and timely completion of projects, and provide feedback on an on-going basis.
  • Assists with the design of slides for the college’s digital signage.
  • Provides graphic design assistance for print publications as needed.
  • Responsible for the ordering and distribution of promotional products.
  • Assists with photography as needed.

    Supplemental Functions:

  • Serves as member of Communications team.
  • Serves on college committees as assigned.
  • Participates in other college activities as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education, Training and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mass communications (journalism, public relations, advertising, or marketing), or related field.
  • Minimum of two years work experience in social media strategy.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, adapting to changing schedules and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated effective skills in the use of Adobe Photoshop, branding, advertising, social media and/or content management systems.

    Experience Preferred:

  • Experience working with Hootsuite to schedule content across multiple platforms.
  • Experience developing digital ad campaigns.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience shooting and editing photos and videos.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics:

  • Professional knowledge of social media networks including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics.
  • Basic understanding of SEO and SEM.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML.
  • Knowledge of Hootsuite.
  • Knowledge of digital advertising.
  • Proficiency in writing content for the web and social media.
  • Knowledge of managing content via a content management system.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to effectively deal with multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of both Mac and Windows operating systems.
  • High level of decision-making ability and sound judgment.
  • Awareness of Associated Press Style writing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Design, layout and aesthetic skills.

    Working Conditions:


  • Heavy use of personal computer.
  • Normal use of telephone and office equipment.
  • Heavy use of in-house printers.
  • Normal sitting, standing and movement within an office and campus environment.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours.
  • Occasional travel within 50 miles of the college.

    Titles Supervised:



    Hiring Salary Range:  $39,590 - $49,480
