The role will be responsible for the following:

The Clinical Coordinator at Chattanooga State Community College's Sonography Program manages clinical education experiences for both general and cardiovascular sonography students. They work closely with the Program Director and assist in lab preparation, teaching, and coordinating specialized concentrations. All tasks adhere to CAAHEP and JRCDMS standards, as well as regional healthcare expectations. The Coordinator maintains relationships with clinical partners, advisory members, and professionals in the field.

This Clinical Coordinator is a 12-month position with teaching responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

  • Help the program director create clinical and class schedules according to curriculum needs and scheduling factors.
  • Actively assist the program director in the selection and training of clinical instructors/preceptors involved in the general and cardiovascular sonography segments of the program.
  • Coordinate with adjunct faculty and clinical supervisors, as necessary, to assure appropriate student exposure to specific didactic and/or clinical instruction.
  • Document the evaluation and progression of clinical and laboratory performance leading to clinical competence.
  • Assess student performance in classrooms, labs, and clinics.
  • Ensure effective clinical experiences for enrolled concentrations, including verifying instructors' credentials and maintaining appropriate student-to-instructor ratios.

Instruction Specific Activities

  • Instruct students in the didactic, laboratory, and clinical environments within assigned courses.
  • Coordinate clinical site visits for faculty members for the purpose of student supervision, under the direction of the program director.
  • Update and periodically review clinic manuals (usually every other week when students are in class session, and whenever visiting students within the clinical setting) for competency progression and accurate records.
  • Supervise student clinical assignments and evaluate their progress in clinical settings, as well as in their coursework. Monitor their overall performance and assign final grades.

 

Holistic Student Support

  • Collaborate with faculty, deans, and other administrators to meet the holistic needs of our students towards ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Advise program students on career goals, registration, clinical requirements, schedules, retention, and job placement, while also assisting in formal and informal employment placement activities or academic transfer following program completion, and supporting student activities for professional growth and career preparation.
  • Participate in recruiting, selecting, orienting, and evaluating sonography students, offering personal advising and program information. Assist in setting academic and career goals.
  • Participate in college-wide committees and initiatives related to student success and retention.

 

Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices

  • Report to and coordinate with the Sonography Program Director, maintaining a positive relationship for the benefit of the program, students, college, and community.
  • Keep open communication with the program director, faculty, advisory members, and dean to ensure program continuity and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with divisions/departments to promote and support college, division, and program efforts.
  • Assure representation of the College with external community partners (e.g., business, industry, and other higher educational institutions).
  • Complete periodic review and evaluation procedures, according to the program’s master plan, to evaluate program effectiveness, also making any recommendations for revision considerations to program director and/or advisory committee.

Fiscal Stewardship

  • In cooperation with the program director, assist in forecasting funding needed for and procurement of general sonography equipment, materials and supplies (through donations, grant writing, written justifications, or scheduled off-site usage) for the laboratory instructional setting.
  • Assist in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and program supplies.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred in a related field
  • Must minimally possess the appropriate credential(s) specific to the program concentration(s); (e.g., Adult Echocardiography and Vascular Technology), in addition to at least one other required credential in general sonography (Abdomen or Obstetrics & Gynecology).
  • Must have documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance, and in educational theories and techniques.
  • Minimum of two years demonstrated full-time clinical experience as a registered sonographer.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Must document and maintain active CPR certification acceptable background check, all necessary educational transcripts.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to collect information, perform analysis, and recommend solutions.
  • Must possess a general knowledge of operation and organizational structures of a community college environment; instructional standards, curriculum and accreditation requirements; computer software skills; file management and reporting systems.
  • Must demonstrate instructional and scanning competence.
