Title: Sports Information Coordinator

Institution: Volunteer State Community College

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for planning, developing, and executing comprehensive communications, marketing, and media strategies for Volunteer State Community College Athletics.

By contributing to the development and implementation of consistent messaging and marketing assets, this position ensures cohesive brand representation across athletics platforms while supporting student-athlete recruitment, fan engagement, and institutional visibility.

This position is responsible for managing athletic media relations; overseeing digital, print, and broadcast content; coordinating live streaming of athletic events; and aligning athletics communications with the College’s overall marketing and communications plan. This position partners with coaches, Admissions, and the Office of Marketing, Communications, and Media Services to ensure athletics storytelling supports enrollment growth and the College’s strategic direction.

Job Duties:

Plan, develop, write, and execute comprehensive athletics marketing and communications plans aligned with institutional branding and strategic enrollment goals. Serve as primary media contact for all athletic programs; write and distribute press releases, game previews and recaps, feature stories, and student-athlete profiles adhering to Associated Press guidelines. Manage and update athletics web content, ensuring accurate schedules, rosters, statistics, and news. Coordinate and manage athletics social media content; collaborate with the Office of Marketing, Communications, and Media Services to ensure consistent brand voice and cross-promotion on official Vol State channels. Oversee live broadcast and streaming of home athletic contests, including coordination of production, commentary, graphics, student production staff, and platform management. Collect, maintain, and report accurate team and individual statistics to conference and governing bodies. Lead the production of athletic publications and promotional materials including media guides, game programs, digital graphics, and video content. Supervise and train student workers and interns in media relations, statistics, photography, social media, and broadcast production, as applicable. Support crisis communications planning and response as related to athletics. Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience in sports information, media relations, marketing, communications, broadcasting, or digital media.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sports management, journalism, public relations or related field.
Experience working in higher education, sports-related media relations, or community college athletics.
Experience creating social media content, writing and editing for press and multimedia platforms, and web management.
Experience with live streaming, video production, and athletics statistical software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced athletic environment.
Ability to effectively interface with student-athletes, coaches, media, prospective students, and community stakeholders.
Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, social media platforms, and content management systems.
Proficient in content creation tools, including but not limited to Canva, Envato, and Adobe Suite.
Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Must present a confident, professional demeanor.
Must be able to manage multiple deadlines, often simultaneously.
Must be able to identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance operational efficiency.
Must be flexible, creative, and solutions oriented.
Ability to work evenings and weekends in support of athletic contests and events. Travel may be required.

Pay Rate: $51,857 - $64,821 annual salary depending on experience
