Title: Student Success Advisor

Job Summary:

Provide information concerning academic success and career guidance as well as other retention-related topics in order to assist students with overall success. Information on academic success can include but not be limited to course selection, study skills, time management, tracking progression, and assisting with transfer to another institution of higher education. Furthermore, the Student Success Advisor provides case management for at-risk students. Career guidance can include but not be limited to resume preparation, career guidance and referral to career related resources.

Job Duties:

Providing academic advising, career advising, and other college success resources for all students in individual and group settings. Assist students with college major selection through the use of various assessments, tools and resources. Guide students through the process of transferring to another institution of higher education through course, program articulation and self-advocacy. Monitor the academic progress of assigned advisees and provide regular outreach to assist the students with staying on track academically. Provide general information about the various forms of financial aid and how the student remains in satisfactory academic progress based on federal and state aid regulations. Refer students to retention related resources which may include but not be limited to counseling, tutoring, financial education and literacy support, career services, co-curricular programs, and other internal and external resources. Work with students who have been reported through the Early Alert system to assist them with securing the needed resources and/or following appropriate college policies or procedures. Manage personalized student communication plans through the customer relationship management software. Reach out to students who have stopped out from previous terms to offer assistance with re-entering the college and to encourage readmission. Assist non first-time applicants (new transfer and readmit) and new first-time freshman students with college processes which lead to enrollment. Analyze data provided through the advising dashboard and other available data sources at the college to inform student success intervention strategies. Provide registration information through class presentations, group advising, automated communication plans, instructional videos, etc. Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of related experience assisting students OR a Master’s degree and one (1) year of related experience assisting students.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in college level academic advising or career advising, high school guidance counselor experience, or some other area of direct student services.
Experience with Banner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, service area school systems, employers, and community partners.
Must be a willing advocate of the mission of the college.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and detail oriented.
Demonstrated effective writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to travel within the VSCC service area is required.
Strong computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office products and other related software.

Pay Rate: $43,888 - $53,873 annual salary depending on experience
