General Function:  Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned group of students to guide, advise, educate, motivate, assess student needs, determine goals, and review prior academic experience to facilitate academic success. Ensure students are made aware of all available college resources to assist them in achieving academic success. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree earned from a regionally accredited institution

 

Preferred Qualifications:  Master’s Degree earned from a regionally accredited institution, higher education experience in advising, student success coaching, career services, or related field

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide academic advisement and assistance to students by creating academic plans, recommending programs of study, making course recommendations, and providing academic strategies to students based on their educational and career goals.

Responsible for the retention of assigned students from orientation to graduation. Maintain regular contact with students to connect them with the appropriate resources to assist in student success.

Monitor student progression and use intervention strategies when necessary to ensure persistence to completion.  Utilize predictive analytics to identify at risk students and provide targeted outreach.

Responsible for maintaining accurate student records using internal student tracking software to support current retention initiatives, evaluate student progress, and possible needs for intervention.

Collaborate with other departments and divisions to provide accurate and appropriate information to students regarding college policies, procedures, degree options, course selection, and completion of degree requirements. Make referrals to appropriate stakeholders when necessary.

Assist with new student orientation for advisement and guidance of students with registration.

Meet with students or other stakeholders individually or in groups to disseminate information, gather feedback or address issues as necessary

Provide coverage of the Student Success center evenings or weekends during periods of increased student need or during peak student usage.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills, including but not limited to Ellucian Banner, Ellucian Degree Works, Argos, EAB Navigate, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, database, and internet
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality statutes and policies as they apply to FERPA and student programs
  • Maintain detailed current knowledge of student programs, academic programs, available student resources policies, and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with students, colleagues and other stakeholders to facilitate student success
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices and the ability to effectively apply them in the higher education environment
